SUMMARY: To protect and promote student health and safety through evidence-based practice, provision of care coordination, and case management to advance academic success.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Identify and assess the needs of the students with chronic health conditions.
- With parental input, create and implement individualized health and emergency action plans for identified students to promote student health and safety.
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings and mandatory professional development.
- Act as liaison between physician/parent and school.
- Participate in Medicaid Billing.
- Conduct health screenings and referrals.
- Conduct immunization surveillance and compliance activities.
- Complete state reports.
- Maintains documentation detailing nursing assessment, care given, disposition.
- Maintains medication record.
- Completes incident reports.
- Contributes to health record maintenance.
- Conduct staff training regarding health topics related to student needs on campus. Maintain records of training.
- Reports presence of communicable diseases on campus to administrator and the department of health. Distributes educational materials to staff regarding communicable disease. Provides parent notification materials to administrator.
- Provide health office training for health assistants and other staff as assigned.
- Provide students with individualized health instruction to improve self-management knowledge and skill of student’s health condition. Assist student to accept and adjust to their health problems.
- Assists families to identify and use community resources.
- Audit compliance with immunization requirements.
- Audit compliance with health screening requirements.
- Audit medication administration practices.
- Audit health file maintenance.
- Reports potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
- Other duties as assigned.
- RN Registered Nursing Certification, BSN preferred.
- One-year previous hospital experience, preferred.
- Bilingual, preferred.
- Possess and maintain an Arizona (or compact state) nursing license in good standing.
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Competency in computer literacy, Word and Excel.
- Standard practices and methods of the nursing process.
- Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.
- Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Business math concepts.
- Filing and record-keeping principles.
- Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
