Job Summary:
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing items for shipment. This position is responsible for assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping materials as well as receiving, unpacking, verifying, recording incoming material, and putting it away in its proper location. The Shipping and Receiving Clerk position is also expected to participate in clean up duties to ensure work can be completed in a safe manner.
Essential Responsibilities
- Use a computer to create and prepare shipping documents such as work orders or shipping orders
- Ability to use a computer to receive purchase orders into our ERP system (Epicor)
- Pick and package parts orders from a sales order/picking sheet (parcel and pallet)
- Ability to load trucks and safely move materials either manually or with a forklift
- Unload trucks and check orders in by examining shipment contents and comparing with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy
- Receive internal manufactured orders including proper paperwork, putting away, etc.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting or recordkeeping purposes
- Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
- Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Cleans and organizes work area
- Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste
- Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- Previous experience with computers and ERP systems, Epicor preferred
- Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
- Ability to understand written or verbal instructions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to see to read instructions, and place materials where needed
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
- Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
- Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
- Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Working Conditions
- Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. May occasionally require working outdoors
- Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV
- The presence of electrical and compressed air sources
- The presence of bottled gas and oxygen
- The presence of chemicals
- The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks, or other vehicles
- May be subject to cramped working conditions in some cases
- Exposure to flying particles, hot or molten metal
- Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting
- Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools
- Exposure to falling or rolling steel
