POSITION SUMMARY |
E.C. Glass High School is excited to welcome a visionary and dynamic leader as our next Athletic Director. This individual will lead a program with a storied legacy of success, innovation, and excellence that includes over 40 state titles across football, basketball, track, tennis, lacrosse, and more. Our goal is to find a leader who will expand on an already outstanding program to elevate the school’s athletic programs to new heights while honoring the traditions that make E.C. Glass a cornerstone of high school athletics in Virginia. Through collaboration with students, families, coaches, and the community, the Athletic Director will inspire a culture of achievement, engagement, and school pride that transcends the playing field.
At E.C. Glass, we believe that athletics is a powerful avenue for instilling a culture of excellence. The next Athletic Director must set high expectations for all student-athletes, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline, and accountability both on and off the field. They will challenge students to achieve their personal best, holding them to standards that promote resilience, integrity, and a commitment to their goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
Visionary Leadership: Set an ambitious vision for athletic excellence that balances competitive success with character development. Leverage partnerships, innovative practices, and strategic planning to strengthen the program’s reputation.
- Act as a liaison between the principal and coaching staff, coaches and parents, and the athletic staff and the athletic booster club.
- Work with booster organizations to provide support to programs.
- Serve as the liaison between division, local, and state athletic authorities.
- Attend district, regional, and state athletic meetings as appropriate.
- Professionally represent the school and district in interactions and conflicts with parents, community, staff, and students.
Program Development: Build and sustain esteemed athletic programs through effective planning, resource allocation, and program evaluation.
- Develop and enforce rules and regulations governing conduct during athletic activities for participants and observers.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of the athletic program, including eligibility lists, insurance lists, equipment inventories, awards, rosters, finances, physicals, and event records.
- Assist the principal in evaluating athletic staff personnel and programs.
- Manage the athletic budget, including purchasing for athletic teams and the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Student-Athlete Development: Prioritize character, resilience, and personal growth alongside athletic success. Demand excellence from student-athletes in sports, academics, and the community.
- Ensure all student-athletes are eligible, insured, and have paid appropriate fees.
- Administer mandatory athletic study hall.
Coach Mentorship: Mentor and develop coaching staff, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and accountability. Establish systems to ensure high standards of integrity and expertise.
- Provide orientation for athletic staff regarding policies and procedures, including district, regional, and state regulations.
- Assist in the hiring of potential athletic staff members.
- Ensure all coaches meet requirements outlined by VHSL.
Community and Feeder System Engagement: Create seamless pathways from recreational leagues to high school programs by nurturing partnerships with middle schools and local leagues.
- Coordinate and implement summer sports camps.
Tradition and Innovation: Respect the program’s rich legacy while integrating modern technologies, updating facilities, and reimagining the student-athlete experience.
Communication and Media Relations: Build strong relationships with local and regional media outlets to highlight achievements of athletes and coaches. Serve as the primary spokesperson for the athletic program.
Event Coordination and Community Building: Design events, traditions, and outreach efforts to foster pride and unity within the school and broader community.
- Schedule and coordinate athletic practices and events, including operational personnel, facilities, transportation, officials, promotions, and equipment.
- Plan and schedule nonathletic activities and events as directed by the principal, such as clubs, fine arts/performing programs, and other student activities.
- Provide supervision and security for home and away athletic events, including set-up and clean-up.
- Maintain all athletic fields.
- Arrange for workers for home events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 3 years of successful coaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level

- Leadership and Vision: Ability to inspire, motivate, and unite stakeholders around a shared vision for athletic excellence in addition to supervising and evaluating athletics staff.

- Budget and Resource Management: Knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, fundraising, and resource allocation.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication abilities to effectively engage students, staff, families, media, and the community.
- Event and Program Coordination: Skilled in organizing events that celebrate and enhance the student-athlete experience while fostering community pride in line with district, regional, and state regulations governing athletics.
- Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and community members.
- Mentorship and Coaching: Proven track record of developing and mentoring staff to achieve professional growth and accountability.
