What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Engineer position at E Ink?
As a Chemical Engineer, you will work in a laboratory environment to support a team of scientists in handling a wide variety of R&D tasks. You will use your attention to detail and careful work with your hands to prepare chemical formulations, coat polymeric thin films, and characterize the fluids and films. Through your observation and communication skills, the data you collect and feedback to the team will help result in new cutting-edge technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Handle chemicals in weigh-outs and mixing of various fluids and powders at lab scale.
- Prepare thin films coatings with lab tools such as manual and automated draw-down applicators, laminator, and UV curing.
- Operate sensitive lab instruments such as viscometer, moisture analyzer, contact angle goniometer, resistivity meter, mechanical tester, TGA, and optical microscopes.
- Make detailed observations and collect measurement data during lab procedures and communicate them to scientists daily.
- Maintain documentation by entering data into spreadsheets, formatting tables, reviewing formulation worksheets, and updating SOPs.
- Track lab supply inventory and place orders.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related discipline, with wet bench laboratory experience.
- Conscientious lab worker with safety as top priority. Comfortable working in a chemical lab, with strong chemical and mechanical intuition.
- Hands-on experience in chemical handling, and manual dexterity for accurate small-scale weigh-outs, thin film preparation, and testing.
- Familiarity with chemical and film testing methods and lab instrumentation.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in recording data using spreadsheets and databases. Ability to format large amounts of numerical data into tables and graphs is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong team player with a positive attitude.
- Ability to set your own routine to manage multiple tasks independently, in coordination with team members, to meet project deadlines.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000-$90,000 annually for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
