About the position:
E Ink is seeking a highly motivated, creative and hands-on scientist to conduct leading-edge materials research for novel electrophoretic display technology. The Senior Materials Scientist will be a subject-matter expert in design, formulating and fabricating functional materials to optimize the chemical, mechanical, electrical and optical properties of various E Ink’s front panel laminate (FPL) platforms. This individual will be based in Billerica, MA, and engage globally with E Ink’s R&D and Manufacturing to champion technical innovations from conception to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ownership of and responsibility for initiating, directing, and executing materials and process research for performance optimization and new product development
- Work with and contribute to an agile, inspiring and supportive team to rapidly advance project goals and actively pursue contingency plans
- Survey technical publications and the patent landscape to stay abreast of technical advancements in the field. Drive research programs aimed at incubating new technologies
- Document the results in comprehensive technical reports and in patents for intellectual property
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in materials science, polymer science or a related field and 2 years of industrial experience in materials development for thin film electronics or
- M.S. in materials science, polymer science or a related field and 5 years of industrial experience in materials development for thin film electronics
- Expertise in one or more of the following or related areas: adhesive film, polymer structural-property relationship, conductive polymers, electrochemical charge transport
- Thin-film coating experience with strong thin-film and interface characterization and optimization knowledge
- Excellent troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-directed, motivated, and hands-on personality. Ability to work in a fast-paced, open-minded highly interdisciplinary work environment
Preferences
- Knowledge of electrical and optical characterization in thin film devices
- Technical project management experience
