Position Summary:
A shop mechanic has relevant working experience, and is able to operate, repair, rebuild, and maintain all types of heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and small power equipment. Has the ability to independently and accurately diagnose and repair/rebuild inoperative or malfunctioning equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with Management to understand their concerns and properly diagnose issues
- Produce accurate and itemized work estimates for Management
- Maintain Commercial Motor Vehicles and other Equipment according to Manufacturer's Preventative Maintenance Schedules and according to the needs of the Company per Management
- Utilize the latest in diagnostic equipment to accurately pinpoint issues, when necessary
- Conduct vehicle inspections and alert Management to issues that will prevent their equipment from performing optimally or passing necessary vehicle inspections
- Complete daily inspection reports, safety meetings and time reporting paperwork
- Keep work areas organized and clean
- Maintain professional appearance and use personal protection equipment (PPE) when required
- Maintains tools and equipment
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED (associate degree preferred)
- Familiarity with the latest vehicle diagnostic equipment
- ASE Mechanic or equivalent certification (preferred not required)
- Must be able to follow direction and use industry standard safety precautions when working on equipment
- Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Valid driver's license
- Class 7 inspection
Experience:
- 4 years' experience performing Heavy Equipment, Commercial Motor Vehicle Repair and Diesel Mechanic Service work
- Experience working with composting equipment a plus
- Welding and Fabrication Experience
Supervision Requirements:
Most work is done independently, without close supervision.
Problem Solving Skillset:
Average level of complexity and independence, average routine severity of problems, set procedures, and impact of decisions.
Responsibility for Tools & Equipment:
Frequent care taken to prevent damage to tools and equipment. Mechanics are offered yearly reimbursement for replacement of tools.
Communication:
Job discussion is required to a significant extent, with detailed work order descriptions completed daily.
