Position Overview :
This position operates, maintains and makes basic repairs to mechanical equipment and systems, including vessel engine(s), on an assigned vessel under the guidance of the Port Engineer.
Position Expectations :
- Prioritize safety above all else, including being knowledgeable of and accurately following company policies and procedures
- Cooperatively and professionally follow orders from vessel Captain / Master (and his / her relief)
- Create a positive work environment for all crew members onboard the vessel
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with vessel crew, operations teams, and corporate office team
- Effectively work with vessel crew to complete customer jobs in a timely and efficient manner
- Ensure that assigned mechanical maintenance and repair work is carried out safely, efficiently, and according to established procedures
- Timely notify vessel master and related parties of any safety issues or concerns
Position Preview :
Respond promptly to problems according to approved procedures
Proactively carry out established preventative maintenance programs in a timely manner on equipment such as generators, compressors, electric motors, etc.
Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the master and making "on-the-spot" corrections when capable.
Required Education : High School Diploma, QMED or related certification
DDE or Chief Engineer License is preferred
Required Experience : Previous experience in maritime industry

The Engineer works on floating vessels and is regularly required to perform manual labor outside in all weather conditions year round. Some work may be performed in vessel cabin as needed.
This position will be regularly required to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom, to climb ladders and to lift and carry 50-75 lbs. There may be exposure to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially hazardous equipment. The ability to board vessels underway in routine sea conditions is necessary.Engineers typically depart from a designated dock and travel onboard the vessel for the duration of their shift. Travel from one port location to another may be required from time to time and land transportation is provided by the company when needed.
Engineers work a
7-days on / 7-days off schedule, working a 12-hour shift each day while onboard the vessel. Engineers may work a "day" or "night" shift. Vessel Engineers are on-call 24hours / day for emergencies while on their hitch.
