Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Below Grade Superintendent with expertise in substation construction to lead and oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of below-grade work for electrical substations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale substation projects, a deep understanding of electrical systems, and a focus on safety, quality, and timely project completion.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise and manage all below-grade construction activities for substation projects, including excavation, trenching, concrete work, foundation installation, and utilities.
· Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure designs and project specifications are accurately followed.
· Coordinate and manage subcontractors, suppliers, and crews, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols, schedules, and budget constraints.
· Oversee the excavation and installation of below-grade components such as cable trays, conduits, transformers, switchgear foundations, and other critical substation infrastructure.
· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to substation construction and safety.
· Review and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
· Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance, providing daily reports on project status.
· Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during construction, including technical, logistical, or safety concerns.
· Maintain a clean and safe job site, ensuring all safety equipment and practices are in place.
· Assist with project scheduling, material procurement, and quality control.
· Perform risk assessments and work to mitigate any potential delays or safety hazards.
· Ensure that all necessary documentation, permits, and inspections are completed and filed in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or construction certifications preferred.
· Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in below-grade construction, with at least 3 years of experience working on substation projects.
· Strong knowledge of electrical substations, including underground utilities, foundations, and structural systems.
· Experience with trenching, excavation, concrete pouring, and installation of underground utilities.
· In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and construction best practices.
· Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
· Proficient with construction management software and tools.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing project needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with high-voltage substation projects.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid/CPR).
- Knowledge of substation equipment installation (transformers, switchgear, breakers, etc.).
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work outdoors and on construction sites.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- The role requires working in an outdoor construction environment, with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Safety gear (hard hats, steel-toed boots, safety vests) must be worn at all times on site.
