Teacher - Preschool Childhood Development (PCD/SPED) (2025-2026 School Year)

Early childhood special education teachers work with students who have developmental difficulties, such as speech and vision problems, limited motor skills, sensory-processing difficulties, or special learning challenges. Students in these age groups may be newly diagnosed and the special education teacher plays a role in determining what services and accommodations they will need. Parents may still be coming to terms with their child’s special needs and will need support and advice. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate South Carolina Teaching Certification in Special Education, BCBA certification (or certification in-progres)

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administering special education testing 
  2. Evaluating special-needs students, determining skill levels, and functional capabilities 
  3. Modifying lessons and revising the standard curriculum to match the child’s functional capacity and accommodations 
  4. Meeting parents and others to review goals and assess progress 
  5. Creating materials to assist in teaching 
  6. Helping children who need assistance with motor skills and eating/drinking 
  7. Providing an appropriate learning environment for students, such as those with sensory-processing challenges 
  8. Advising parents on how to work with their child 
  9. Instructing students one-on-one in imitation, repetition, and step-by-step problem solving 
  10. Completing evaluative and accommodation forms such as IEPs
  11. Provide direct special education services as a special education teacher and manage a caseload of preschool students with disabilities for half of the school day.

    Provide behavior intervention (under the realm of BCBA) services for the 4 preschool classes in the program. Provide behavior plans and interventions for pre-school teachers to implement with specific students. Behavioral services and supports will be provided to teachers and students during the half of the school day that teacher is not teaching a class.
  13. Provide support and inservice to other pre-school teachers regarding behavior interventions and strategies.
