Position Information General Summary : s part of the Missouri Wastewater Surveillance Program team, this position will facilitate a school-based fentanyl wastewater testing project. This project aims to address public health concerns related to opioid use through wastewater testing for opioids, data-driven insights, and community engagement. This Environmental Program Specialist will play a key role in building strong relationships with schools, parents, and other stakeholders while ensuring effective project execution. Key Responsibilities :
Communication with Schools and Parents : Serve as the primary point of contact for schools and parents, providing updates, addressing concerns, and delivering clear, accessible educational materials.
Data Analytics and Interpretation : Oversee wastewater sample collection, collaborate with laboratories to interpret testing results, and communicate findings in actionable and understandable ways.
Program Coordination : Manage project logistics, including sampling schedules and laboratory testing, while ensuring adherence to safety standards and program protocols.
Stakeholder Collaboration : Facilitate meetings and updates with stakeholders to ensure transparency and effective collaboration. Preferred qualifications / skills : The applicant should have the following education, experience and ability :
College Degree : Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public health, biology, engineering, or related field.
Public Health Knowledge : Understanding of public health issues, especially opioid use and wastewater testing methodologies.
Data Visualization Expertise : Experience using software tools like Tableau to present data insights visually.
Community Engagement : Previous experience working in community outreach or public health initiatives. Full time, not to exceed 1,040 hours. Type of Employment Work Schedule :
Days and hours to be worked Monday through Friday
8 A.M. to 5 P.M Weekend or evening work required? Some evening or weekend hours may be required to engage with school communities and parents. Travel required Will require in-state travel with possible overnight stays on occasion and may infrequently require out-of-state travel and overnight stays.
