Position Details:
- Start Date: ASAP for the 24/25 school year
- Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
- Grade Level: 1:1 Middle School in a functional classroom
Requirements: familiar with National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Registry of Interpreters (RID) Code of Professional Conduct; fluency in English and Sign Language; trained in American Sign Language and/or cued speech; possess the ability to relate well with students, teachers, administration, faculty, staff & parents; Passing score on the EIPA Assessment test.
- Compensation: Starting at $43/hour (commensurate with experience)
- Location: 100% Remote

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) for students, teachers, and school staff in classroom and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate communication during instruction, meetings, assessments, and school events to ensure full accessibility for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Interpret and adapt educational materials as needed, ensuring clarity and comprehension.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support students' learning experiences.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions, adhering to ethical standards of interpretation.
- Advocate for students' accessibility needs and ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and other relevant regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance interpretation skills and knowledge of best practices in educational interpreting.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associate's OR Bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Score of 3.5 or higher, or equivalent certification.
- Proficiency in ASL and English, with strong receptive and expressive skills.
- Understanding of educational settings, including knowledge of special education laws and practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience working as an interpreter or translator in an educational or community setting.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with students, families, and school staff.
- Professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in various school settings and accommodate diverse communication needs.

Physical Requirements (Remote Work):
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods and use a computer, video conferencing tools, and webcam for remote interpreting. The employee must be able to effectively communicate using ASL and spoken English through video calls. Occasionally, the employee may need to stand, stretch, or move while signing and lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
