Position Summary: The Cake Decorator is a skilled and creative professional responsible for decorating a wide range of cakes, cupcakes, and other bakery goods to meet customer needs and enhance our supermarket’s bakery department. This role involves creating visually stunning and delicious cakes for various occasions, maintaining high standards of quality and presentation, and ensuring the bakery department is well-stocked and organized. You will work closely with customers to bring their cake visions to life and collaborate with the bakery team to ensure efficient production and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities may vary depending on assignment.)
· Provide outstanding customer service.
· Answers phones and takes phone orders correctly.
· Assist customers at both bakery and deli service counters.
· Keep counters, glass, cases, and work areas clean and neat.
· Ice & decorate all cakes for customer orders & service cases.
· Maintains excellent personal hygiene habits.
· Stocks sales floor area, bakery cases, and supply areas.
· Follows all safety and security procedures.
· Puts away & keeps supplies and products stored neatly in proper place when delivers come in.
· May operate small kitchen appliances, ovens, proofers, and warmers.
· Takes out trash and disposes of cardboard.
· Performs daily cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping.
· Opens and closes department without supervision.
· May occasionally operate meat and cheese slicer along with serving customers at the deli steam table.
· May assist on front-end with cashier and carryout duties as needed.
· Any other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
- Must be able to work around ovens and cooking areas as well as in freezers and walk-in coolers.
- Fast paced retail environment with work primarily in deli/bakery kitchen.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance. Occassioanlly moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 60 pounds.
- Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight. Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
- Stands or walks continuously throughout the shift.
Qualifications & Other Job Requirements:
· Previous experience in a retail or grocery environment preferred, but not required.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
· Minimum age requirement = 16 years old.
