Position Summary: The Produce Manager oversees the operations of the produce department, ensuring the effective management of inventory, pricing, and merchandising to maximize sales and profitability. This role involves planning and creating attractive displays, ordering and processing produce, and maintaining high standards of product quality and freshness. The Produce Manager is responsible for supervising and training new associates, ensuring labor and safety standards are met, and managing all aspects of produce handling including ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation.
Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities may vary depending on assignment.)
· Provide outstanding customer service.
· Keeps produces cases, shelves, and displays full.
· Ensures all areas of cost control are monitored continuously.
· Prepares fresh produce for display.
· Looks for and removes defective produce.
· Prepare fruit baskets for customers.
· Make out schedule for produce associate.
· Order product and supplies for the department.
· Meet sales forecast and other KPIs.
· Ensure invoices are properly coded along with adjustments being properly recorded.
· Fills bags of ice and ensures freezer is kept full for customer purchase.
· Maintains cases and display areas daily to provide an attractive setting that will appeal to customers.
· Maintains a variety and freshness of all products.
· Ensures a clean work area at all times.
· Maintains excellent personal hygiene habits.
· Follows all safety and security procedures.
· Takes out trash and disposes of cardboard.
· Performs daily cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping.
· May assist on front-end with cashier and carryout duties as needed.
· Any other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
- Must be able to perform work inside of walk-in cooler and freezer. This role also requires one to be able to perform work inside of a preparation room which is kept at a cooler temperature than room temperature.
- Fast paced retail environment.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
· 1-2 produce associates. Close supervision of duties along with recruitment, mentoring, evaluation of performance, providing feedback, and terminations.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance. Occassioanlly moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 100 pounds.
- Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight. Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
- Stands or walks continuously throughout the shift.
Qualifications & Other Job Requirements:
· Previous experience in a retail or grocery environment preferred but not required.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
· Minimum age requirement = 18 years old.
