Overview
The Cathodic Protection Tester / Inspector is our entry level field representative ensuring quality data is delivered to our client partners. We entrust our tester / inspectors with observing, recording, and measuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP) systems as they perform their duties per client specifications, international standards, and codes. In this role, you will also assist survey teams performing tests, repairs, and maintenance related to pipeline corrosion monitoring.
Responsibilities
The CP Tester / Inspector works under the direction of the Corrosion Manager, who will assign additional responsibilities to each technician as required. The duties assigned to the CP Tester / Inspector will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist the CP Technician with comprehensive CP Surveys (CIS, ACVG, DCVG, PCM) on various metallic structures, including pipelines, tanks, and other assets.
- Perform detailed inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems.
- Install, test, and monitor CP equipment to ensure effective corrosion control.
- Keep abreast of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to cathodic protection.
- Provide technical support and expertise to clients and internal teams.
- Identifying outside currents negatively affecting company operations.
- Read shunts and recognize their use in rectifiers, bonds, and anodes.
- Maintaining interactive work relationships with Specialists and Engineers to accurately and effectively complete job responsibilities.
- Understanding the Contract document as it relates to their duties on the project.
- Recognize safety issues specific to CP and take a proactive approach to safety on the job site.
- The CP Inspector may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities relating to pipeline corrosion mitigation.
Qualifications
- Position Requires NACE Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) Certification.
- Position Requires a minimum of two years of corrosion control and cathodic protection experience.
- Knowledge of CP system installations, reference electrodes, junction boxes, cables, and rectifiers.
- Knowledge of various Test Station types and how to obtain required readings for each type.
- Experience performing close interval, DCVG, ACVG surveys.
- Experience operating electronic pipe locators, including PCM.
- Experience installing, configuring, and removing rectifier interrupters.
- AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector Certification or higher preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Obtain Operator Qualification (OQ) status as required by the project.

- Skilled with M.S. Office suite.

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Hourly rate for this position is $39.00 - $41.00. The starting rate will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Construction Sites and Client Right-of-Way (ROW).
- Client testing facility (occasionally).
- Corporate office (occasionally).
- It may require extensive driving to reach job sites and client / E2 offices.
- There are frequent ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and hands and arms up in and out of pipeline bell-hole / trench/excavation.
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
- Lifting objects over 50 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
- Possess the ability to perform visual inspection of construction crew quality of work, measuring devices, and assemble fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Able to perform in both inside and outside environmental conditions in all four seasons throughout the continental United States – extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for more than one hour.
- Can work extended and overnight shifts without limitations.
Travel
It may require extensive driving to reach job sites and client / E2 offices. Travel to locations may require staying overnight for a period of time.
