Position Summary
The Hedge Fund Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions for a hedge fund. This role ensures the accuracy and compliance of financial statements with fund policies, industry practices, accounting principles, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Investor Allocations: Manage and review investor allocations and complex fee structures.
- Fund Accounting: Oversee the accounting of the fund's underlying investments, including valuation and performance reporting.
- Expense Management: Review and manage non-trading expense items, coordinate invoice sign-offs, payments, and accrual adjustments.
- Cash Management: Monitor and manage cash flows, including cash forecasting and liquidity management.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and ensure timely completion.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Provide financial analysis and support for strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of accountants and financial analysts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA or CFA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in fund accounting or financial reporting, preferably within the hedge fund industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in financial software and systems, and strong communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex and large data sets.
- Proficient in financial modeling, valuation, and accounting principles and methodologies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and team members at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with financial software, such as Power BI and Adaptive is a plus.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
