Responsibilities:
Estimate Preparation: Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for heavy civil and highway construction projects.
Collaborate with Project Managers: Work alongside project managers and field personnel to address project questions, resolve RFIs, and handle change orders.
Scope Analysis: Study project designs and customer requirements to determine accurate scope and cost estimates for highway and heavy civil projects.
Project Bid Management: Prepare bids for various projects, including hard bid, negotiated, and design/build projects in both public and private sectors, focusing on heavy civil and highway construction.
Cost Estimation: Estimate all necessary project costs including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor rates to create a comprehensive cost estimate.
Proposal and Scope Review: Review proposals, specifications, and drawings to determine the full scope of work and develop detailed quantity take-offs.
Vendor and Subcontractor Relations: Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and timely project delivery.
Risk and Cost Management: Work with project managers to evaluate the risks and costs associated with each project, particularly in the heavy civil and highway sectors.
Buyout Process: Manage the buyout process with project managers to finalize materials, labor, and subcontractor agreements.
Project Tracking: Assist in monitoring project costs, scheduling, and tracking throughout the duration of the project.
Requirements:
Experience: At least 3-5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil and highway construction projects.
Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy civil and highway construction processes and materials, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and estimating software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, or other industry-standard software).
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and thorough estimates for complex heavy civil and highway projects.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues related to estimating and project costs.
Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Certification: Professional certification in construction estimating (e.g., AACE or similar) is a plus but not required.
