Department Manager Job Description Summary
Under the Supervision of Store Management, a Department Manager is responsible for all the functions of a particular sales department. This position oversees their responsible department staff and implements strategies to continually improve the customer service experience and increase productivity. This manager must continue to provide the unmatched radical customer service we are known for by training staff on selling methods, product specifications, and daily job duties. The main goal of this position is to develop their staff and maximize customer service and sales in their responsible department.
Ultimately, the duties of the Department Manager are to achieve excellent customer service by building relationships (both with staff and customers) with genuine conversation and personal interactions. The Mezzanine Department Manager is responsible for managing all children's clothing & accessories upstairs, as well as our year-round clearance area.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a culture within a responsible department that ensures radical customer service and high performance is the focus of all activities.
- Manage the upstairs area of the store (Mezzanine) with excellence. This area includes all children's clothing and accessories, along with our year-round clearance area.
- Hold responsible staff accountable for providing quality customer service & achieving department/store goals.
- Lead staff by example with excellent customer service standards.
- Train staff to assess customers’ needs to provide assistance and information on product features.
- Maintain the appearance of their department by ensuring staff are adequately stocking and performing general housekeeping.
- Foster an environment that places the needs of the customer before any task-oriented job responsibilities.
- Work as a team with all Store Management/Department Managers to maximize sales and enhance the customer experience throughout the entire store.
- Collaborate with the inventory management team on products offered in the responsible department. Continual training on products offered to become an expert. Gather & provide feedback to buyers on new product requests to meet customer needs.
- Collaborate with the merchandising team on floor layout of their department. Provide feedback on what is and is not working from the aspect of serving the customer.
- Review department sales reports. Provide feedback to staff on individual product performance (best sellers, poor performers, etc.). Implement business strategies to improve the customer experience and increase sales.
- Comply with inventory control procedures and ensure department staff is compliant.
- Knowledgeable of and follows all store safety procedures
- Ensure compliance with company standards among sales staff.
- Provide periodic feedback & evaluations of staff performance. Be willing to have courageous conversations with individual sales staff as needed for development and growth.
- Develop & prepare department staff to reach their potential for job transition and succession.
- Serve as Acting Store Management in their absence on a rotational basis with other Department Managers. Thorough understanding of all store-wide policies & procedures for making decisions in their absence.
- Provide feedback to Store Management on scheduling needs for their responsible department.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
- High school degree/equivalent or more. An advanced degree in Business is preferred but not required.
- Proven work experience (2-3 years) in retail/sales management or similar role.
Schedule Requirements:
- Availability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- 5 Day work week with primarily 8-9 hour shifts.
- 2-3 Saturday shifts per month with a minimum of 1 Saturday off per month excluding key dates and the month of December.
- Eagle Eye is closed every Sunday.
Computer Skills:
- Basic Typing Skills
- Microsoft Applications
- General Understanding of Excel for reading sales reports.
- General Familiarity with iPad functions.
- Previous Experience using a POS/Inventory Management System a plus.
