About Us

Located in Hardwick, MA, Eagle Hill School is a coeducational college preparatory boarding school that provides an individualized education for students with diverse learning profiles. The student population consists of approximately 215 students in grades 8-12. Of the 215 students, approximately 200 are boarding students, residing on our beautiful, state of the art campus. The total faculty and staff headcount is approximately 150.

The campus is comprised of 15 buildings directly on campus and approximately 25 other homes or buildings located on/or adjacent to campus. There are 2 athletic fields, and the total campus sits on approximately 220 acres of land. Mechanical systems range from large commercial grade equipment to standard residential systems. The school has 5 wells on campus which supply our drinking water, fire suppression, and irrigation systems. The school’s water system meets the requirements of a Public Water Supply, requiring licensed water treatment operators on our staff.

About You

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our maintenance team. This person will be responsible for addressing day-to-day facilities maintenance issues and work on larger projects as assigned. Candidates should be:

  • Experienced with demonstrable knowledge of building maintenance and/or related trades, including Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Heating/Cooling, Fire Systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing maintenance related issues as they arise. Issues such as: mechanical, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, irrigation, etc.
  • Have a “can do” attitude with the ability to think critically and independently. If you see something that needs repair, you take the initiative to get it done, or notify your supervisor if it is something substantial or outside of your ability.
  • Adaptable to a variety of work environments, with the ability to remain calm, positive, professional, and respectful in all situations.
  • Reliable, team player that will politely interact with all employees, students, contractors, parents, and various visitors to the school.

Position Summary

Perform general maintenance tasks and repairs in a variety of areas as assigned by Supervisors or Administration. Job specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and grounds.
  • Responsible for various carpentry projects, repairs, and minor renovations, such as replacing doors, windows, trim, flooring, wall repairs, painting, finishings, and exterior building maintenance.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical work not requiring a license and diagnose/troubleshoot more extensive issues.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems as needed.
  • Assist with the requirements of the water treatment process.
  • Maintenance of indoor and outdoor pools, along with the filtration systems.
  • Perform regular inspections and routine maintenance of all equipment and systems.
  • Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs.
  • General landscaping and upkeep of grounds, including mowing, trimming, pruning, and fall cleanup.
  • Complete varying landscape projects, including irrigation repairs, planting grass, fertilizing, and the maintenance/repair of hardscaping.
  • Remove snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps for campus and school housing.
  • Oversee outside contractors, as necessary.
  • Perform maintenance and small repairs on school vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Ensure safe work practices.
  • Be forward looking, offering recommendations and new ideas to management to ensure that the school continuously improves.

Qualifications / Skills / Licenses

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience with similar responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and property maintenance, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repairs.
  • Experience operating machinery that includes mowing equipment, plowing, tractors, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Hydraulic operator’s license (or the willingness and ability to obtain).
  • Pool operator's license (or the willingness and ability to obtain).
  • Water treatment and distribution license (or the willingness and ability to obtain).
  • Strong time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Desire to constantly improve your skills and remain as knowledgeable as possible.
  • Successful criminal background check and pre-employment screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Able to bend, stretch, twist, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to climb multiple flights of stairs on daily basis and walk frequently.
  • Able to safely work with chemicals according to directions.
  • Able to work outside for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working from a ladder, lift, and bucket truck.

Schedule

  • Year-round, full-time schedule.
  • General hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Varying on-call hours (weekend rotation as needed, weekdays as needed).
  • Additional hours as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
