What are the responsibilities and job description for the Blast Operator position at Eagle Railcar Services?
Set up, operate, or tend sand blast machines for all surfaces that are to be coated. Operates the equipment to blast according to specific SSPC and NACE standards or customer specifications.
Tasks:
- Notify supervisors of needed repairs.
- Observe operation of equipment to ensure continuity of flow, safety, and efficient operation, and to detect malfunctions.
- Clean, adjust and maintain equipment, using hand tools.
- Read work orders to determine production specifications and information.
- Reject defective products and readjust equipment to eliminate problems.
- Sand blast with an abrasive grit all surfaces that are to be coated and uses his training and instruction to inspect surfaces for visible moisture, rust, scale, or other contamination such as fingerprints, or detrimental material on workers clothes.
- Examine materials, ingredients, or products visually or with hands, in order to ensure conformance to established standards.
- Transfer materials, supplies, and products between work areas, using moving equipment and hand tools.
- Clean work areas.
- Tend to accessory equipment such as pumps and conveyors in order to move materials or ingredients through production processes.
- Test samples of materials or products to ensure compliance with specifications, using test equipment.
- Load materials into machinery and equipment, using hand tools.
- Dislodge and clear jammed materials or other items from machinery and equipment, using hand tools.
Skills:
- Able to stand for long periods of time with limited breaks.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and team lift up to 150 pounds.
- Work in extreme temperatures and elements for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to work at elevated heights.
- Must be able to read and comprehend basic drawings and scope of work.
- Must possess basic math skills, addition, subtraction.

Experience and Education:
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
- 3 years verifiable work experience.
