Overview

EagleView, the leader in aerial imagery, is hiring an Optical Systems Engineer I to join our multi-disciplined Flight Systems Engineering team. This is a multi-disciplined development team consisting of software, electrical, mechanical, imagery and optical engineers. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining EagleView’s image capture systems.  This includes real-time airborne control and communications systems, high resolution multi-spectral camera system design, optical and environmental calibration systems and automated image quality assessment, just to name a few. Our work includes everything from working with raw materials to delivering high resolution image capture systems. You will be able to take pride and ownership in your work as well as in the overall contributions of your team, with the ability to see the immediate impact of those contributions on the business and its Operations team.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers in the testing and refinement of high-resolution imaging systems.
  • Work with vendors on custom component specifications and qualification.
  • Utilize lens design software to qualify theoretical performance capabilities of existing optics.
  • Develop, test, and maintain internal lab scripts and software
  • Analyze large-scale datasets to identify trends and document findings.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notes of the results of various evaluation experiments.
  • Identify, triage, and resolve sources of image degradation in a complex imaging system.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Optical Engineering, Imaging Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience with using Zemax, CODEV, or other Optical Design software.
  • Familiarity with the tools and techniques needed to characterize optical systems, including resolution, distortion, field curvature, astigmatism, and chromatic aberrations.
  • Understanding of interferometry.
  • Experience with software development, Python preferred.
  • Experience with programmatically analyzing and manipulating imagery.

Preferred

  • Experience with creating, managing, and updating databases programmatically.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Experience using git or GitHub.

The compensation offered to the successful candidate will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s work experience, education and licenses, work-related training, key skills, the core duties of the role and its associated responsibilities, additional benefits offered, and the location where the work will be performed. All Fulltime (30 hours) employees are eligible for PTO, Sick and Parental Leave; Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance; 401(k) Plan; Health Savings Account and Health Reimbursement Accounts; Life Insurance; Employee Assistance Program. This is a full-time, hybrid position (in our Rochester NY headquarters) with a base compensation of $75,000 - $105,000, bonus eligible.
