Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Leads school improvement efforts through a collaborative process, including an on-going review of achievement data and the development and implementation of comprehensive school improvement plans.
- Keeps Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Executive Director of Special Programs informed of the school’s activities and challenges.
- Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances including various local funds generated by student activities.
- Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
- Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
- Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
- Supervises the school educational program.
- Supervises the social worker, physical therapist and occupational therapists to enhance individual student education and development.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of the students.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities and functions.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
- Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
- Supervises the school’s teaching process.
- Approves the master teaching schedule and special assignments.
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their developments, as appropriate.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
- Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Recommends according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
- Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
- Plans and supervises safety drills and an emergency preparedness program.
- Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy.
- Provides for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property.
- Participates in principals’ meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required and appropriate.
- Serves as ex officio member of all committees and councils within his/her school.
- Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases in cooperation with the Director of Communication when necessary.
- Organizes and administers the public relations program for his/her school.
- Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to by the Superintendent.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
- Monitor and maintain compliance of State and Federal Funding.
- Oversee and maintain alignment of Early Child Special Education, Pre-kindergarten, and Parents as Teachers programs.
- Coordinate transition services into the Early Childhood program with Joel E. Barber School District, Head Start, First Steps, and LEAP.
- Coordinate with the Director of Transportation and bus drivers regarding transportation issues concerning students.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Special Programs and Process Coordinator to develop and implement district Special Education procedures.
- Coordinate and confer with Process Coordinators concerning transition between ECSE and Kindergarten to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with Special Education Teachers, Guidance Staff, and Building Administrators on students with disabilities’ placements in regular classrooms to best meet the needs of students, as well as to encourage the efficient use of district resources
- Coordinate and assist in the assignment of Paraprofessional schedules within Early Childhood.
- Mediate and consult on Paraprofessional issues within Early Childhood.
- Provide consultation services for Early Childhood teachers..
- Conduct meetings with students, parents, teachers, and social worker to implement schedule changes throughout the school year.
- Fulfill any other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
- Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel attached to the school.
- Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
- Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Masters Degree or Higher
Five Years in Teaching
School Administration experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Masters or Higher
- Administrator Certification
- Such Alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Skills and Abilities
Language
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.
Computation
The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.
Technology
The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Will be using district software for retrieving parent and student information.

Terms of Employment
Director of Early Childhood contract of 11 months.
Salary and work year established by the board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board
Policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
