SUMMARY:
Certified parent educator will implement the PAT model which emphasizes parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curricula, the parent educator will partner, facilitate and reflect with families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being (includes planning, delivering, and documenting the visit)
- Use the PAT Foundational Curricula to share research-based information with families
- Conduct developmental screenings with enrolled children and in community child care centers
- Develop, monitor and review goals with each family
- Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs
- Work with young teen parents individually and in a group setting
- Help parents and children transition to preschool, kindergarten, or other services as needed
- Engage in recruitment activities in the District and community
- Provide group connections to families
- Maintain and submit in a timely way all required family and program documentation
- Attend staff meetings at least monthly
- Participate in 2 hours of reflective supervision monthly
- Obtain competency-based professional development and renew certification annually
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor or four-year degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology or a related field preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
- Strong organizational and record keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of word processing and experience with virtual platforms such as Zoom
- Parent educator must complete the Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Trainings before delivering PAT services
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to conduct personal visits on the floor in a variety of home environments and conduct visits using a virtual platform such as Zoom; will need reliable transportation
Physical Demands
- Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
- Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet.
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.
- Requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
- The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard free environment.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
