Position Title: Vice President of Strategic Impact

Location: Remote work based in Michigan with occasional travel

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $150,000-$175,000

Class: Exempt

Position Summary

The Vice President of Strategic Impact is a key executive leader within the Early Childhood Investment Corporation, working closely with the CEO. This role is responsible for driving ECIC’s external engagement, fund development, advocacy, and strategic partnerships to advance the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. Overseeing all Senior Directors, the VP of Strategic Impact ensures alignment between ECIC’s strategic priorities and departmental initiatives, fostering collaboration across leadership teams. Acting as a representative of the CEO when delegated, the VP of Strategic Impact plays a critical role in shaping policy, securing funding, and positioning ECIC as a leader in early childhood development.

Leadership

  • Work closely with the CEO to provide strategic insight and leadership on high-priority initiatives.
  • Lead, motivate, and foster sound working relationships with team members and contractors.
  • Execute oversight of divisions of work supporting the mission of the organization, including programmatic, communications, and public policy.
  • Meet regularly with the CEO and Senior Directors to develop strategic direction and ensure departmental strategies align with organizational goals.
  • Represent the Early Childhood Investment Corporation with the State legislature, Federal government, foundations, and corporations as needed.
  • Serve as an informed and authoritative voice on behalf of Michigan children and families representing ECIC with the media, governmental officials, and the public.
  • Work in partnership with the State departments and offices in support of State efforts on early childhood.
  • Represent the Early Childhood Investment Corporation in national coalitions at the state and national level focused on early childhood advancement.
  • Work with the State’s Intermediate School Districts and local agencies, parent coalitions, and community leaders to help strengthen early childhood efforts.
  • In partnership with the CEO and senior directors, lead efforts of the Early Childhood Investment Corporation to improve quality in early childhood in Michigan.

Fund Development

  • Cultivate relationships with funders and potential funders to secure diverse funding sources, both private and public.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to prepare funding proposals, develop grant budgets, and implement business plans to advance ECIC’s goals.
  • Support the development and execution of sustainable fundraising strategies to support long-term growth and impact.

Community Relations and Advocacy

  • Serve as a senior representative of ECIC, strengthening the organization’s presence and influence across key stakeholder groups, including policymakers, funders, community leaders, and partner organizations.
  • Act as a key spokesperson for ECIC, advancing the organization’s mission and policy agenda through strategic communications and public engagements.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, lead high-level relationship management efforts with state agencies, advocacy groups, foundations, and national organizations to drive systemic change and secure resources for early childhood initiatives.
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and execute engagement strategies that strengthen partnerships and enhance ECIC’s thought leadership in the sector.
  • Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in the external environment and provide strategic recommendations to the CEO.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • The position requires knowledge normally acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or institution in Public Policy, Management, Business or related field. Master’s Degree (M.A.) preferred
  • Ten (10) years of experience in leadership and management, non-profit or government preferred
  • Experience in public policy
  • Fundraising, grant, and revenue generating experience required
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive environment
  • Exceptional writing and public speaking skills
  • Excellent facilitation and mediation skills
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality in regard to sensitive matters and all organizational information.

Physical Requirements

  • Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to others accurately. (4-5 hours daily)
  • Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. (4-5 hours daily)
  • Standing – In one position, particularly for sustained periods of time. (2-3 hours daily)
  • Visual Acuity – Viewing objects with close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. (5-6 hours daily)
  • Office Setting - Sedentary work in which exerting up to 10 pounds of force is occasional and a negligible amount of force is frequently or constantly used to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Salary : $150,000 - $175,000
