Job Title EARLY HEAD START AIDE
Reports to Teacher and EHS Education Supervisor
12 month Non-Exempt Hourly Position
Qualifications High School Diploma or GED
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Provide support to staff and children in the preparation and implementation of daily activities and consistent routines for infants and toddlers;
- Uses space, relationships, materials, and routines as resources for constructing an interesting, secure, nurturing, and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning;
- Uses respectful care to respond quickly to infant’s cries or calls of distress, recognizing that crying and body movements are an infant’s only way to communicate;
- Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the development levels and learning styles of the children;
- Encourage and models language expansion, extended learning and problem-solving strategies throughout the day;
- Maintain a safe, clean, learning environment, and assures the well-being and safety of children in her/his care;
- Change diapers as needed and assists with potty training techniques as age and developmentally appropriate;
- Assure child-staff ratio is always maintained;
- Monitor children to utilizing Active Supervision procedures to assure safe and appropriate play and to assure safety and cleanliness of the equipment; assure all children are always visible;
- Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
- Assist in conducting the daily health and environment checklist;
- Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices;
- Promote a healthy environment and share the responsibility of maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the classroom to include but not limited to janitorial duties as assigned by teacher or supervisor such as: following cleaning checklist including bathrooms, handwashing, sterilization of toys, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, mopping floors, wiping down equipment and sorting of material;
- Respond immediately to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution;
- Mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect;
- Works with staff, substitutes, interns and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities;
- Covering of classroom breaks as designated by supervisor
- Fulfill the role and responsibilities of the teacher when absent;
- In consultation with supervisor or coach, develop own professional development goals;
- At the direction of the Teacher provide accurate records regarding food service, inventory, facility records and documentation regarding parent and child interaction

- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff and family information;
- Be present at work to provide a consistency of services to the children;
- Participate in all staff meetings, conferences, training sessions and workshops as assigned;
- Demonstrate knowledge of employment policies, performance standards, work plans and objectives of the agency;
- Shows initiative, dependability, flexibility, high motivation, and is a team player who projects a pleasant personality;
- Maintain congenial and respectful relations and professional boundaries with staff, children, families and the community;

- Ability to do tasks involving a variety of repetitive arm and hand motion and fingers to handle, feel and talk.
- Able to perform tasks effectively in an environment that is fast paced, has required deadlines and may be subject to frequent interruptions.
- Employee must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk; push, pull, carry and lift to 50 pounds; full range of use of fingers, grasp; execute repetitive motions that are substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers- complete all fulfilling the essential job duties of the position.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- To assure children’s safety, when in the presence of children, it is the expectation that the employee always remains alert and focused and able to make quick and spontaneous decisions using program solving skills and good judgement based on organizational policies and procedures.
