SUMMARY
The West Valley School District is seeking a highly qualified, collaborative, candidate to join the District wide team and deliver specialized occupational therapy services to our students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited school of occupational therapy.
- Washington State occupational therapy license.
- Registration as an occupational therapist with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Certified or eligible for Washington State certification as an (ESA) educational staff associate endorsed for occupational therapy.
- Additional education in occupational therapy, theory, and methods in current usage with disabled children is desirable.
- Prior occupational therapy experience working with children with disabilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the essential requirements within P.L. 94-142 and its application to the provision of compliant services for the disabled.
- Knowledge of the differences in therapies between the school setting and rehab.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, and administrators in providing direct and indirect services to disabled students in a confidential manner.
- Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly in written or oral form.
- Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
- Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
- Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies based on best practices.
- Conducts self in a professional manner through interactions with students and adults, has high expectations for student performance, is compassionate but firm when modeling appropriate behavior, and selects appropriate attire.
- Relates positively to students and adults from varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, learning styles, and various disabilities.
- Maintains a high level of professional expertise and emerging research related to this position.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct evaluations and design effective treatment plans for disabled students as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
- Assist in the identification of students in need of physical therapy through screening and evaluations.
- Evaluate and treat individual children to develop actions in performance skills. The occupational therapist deals with both physical and social development and is concerned with children’s ability to accomplish tasks related to their developmental progress.
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in designing and implementing effective treatment programs as determined by the student’s individual educational plan.
- Relate the educational significance of occupational therapy treatments toward assisting in the student’s fullest potential and educational growth.
- Plan and implement an occupational therapy program for identified children to achieve necessary goals within the educational setting.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate IEPs that focus on assessment data and evaluated student progress using a data-based decision-making model.
- Provide consultation and advisory services to the child’s family, health care agencies, and community organizations as needed.
- Consult with the student’s physician concerning the student’s occupational therapy program.
- Consult, instruct, and monitor the student, family, and other educational staff in occupational therapy procedures as needed.
- Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
- Participate in ordering new supplies, managing the equipment, and adopting repairs as necessary for the functional operation of said equipment.
- Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth, awareness, and development.
- Maintain professional knowledge and expertise; attend, participate, and implement district-level program requirements of IDEA, NCLD, and Statewide Assessment requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work year are determined by the negotiated agreement and the needs of the District.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
