Yard Manager Job Description

The Yard Manager works with the Operations Director, Fleet Manager, Crew Supervisors, and Foremen to assure the needed building materials and supplies are available, organized, and ready to be transported to the proper job site. They supervise, manage and schedule any laborers (Yard Runners) assigned to the yard. An exceptional Yard Manager will be a team player and understand the importance of an organized and efficient yard inventory system in the Earnest Contracting road building process. Previous experience with road construction is desired.

Yard Manager Responsibilities:

• Oversees the yard, managing the job site supplies, building materials, road signage, lumber, etc.
• They maintain an organized inventory of all materials in the main warehouse, the job site materials warehouse, on the yard, and the rock/sand yard.
• Where needed, create new policies or processes to improve efficiency.
• Communicates daily with the Operations Director, Crew Supervisors, and Foremen about any materials/supplies needed the following day.
• Responsible for ordering all building materials per the request of the Operations Director and need based off the current inventory.
• Oversees and assists in setup and removal of signage and traffic logs.
• Supervises the Yard Runner(s), setting their schedule and daily tasks.
• Oversees the loading of materials and equipment to ensure safe transfer to other locations.
• Build relationships with needed vendors to ensure the best price and quickest delivery of needed supplies and materials.
• Maintains weeds and keeps the 70th St yard clean.

Yard Manager Experience/Education Requirements:

• 2 years of experience with inventory, logistics, or construction yard management.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Able to enforce policies to assure accuracy and efficiency.
• Class A CDL not required but desired.
• Physical requirements:
• Manually lift/carry 50-100 lbs.
• Stand, walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform all required tasks during all weather conditions (hot/cold), and to work extended hours, as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
