Position Summary:
The Project Manager is responsible for managing environmental projects including Phase I and Phase II site assessments, report writing, field investigations, remediation planning, and regulatory coordination. This role requires technical expertise, effective communication, field experience, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase II Limited Site Investigations (LSIs)
- Perform groundwater and soil sampling, remedial design, and implementation
- Provide contractor oversight during environmental emergency responses
- QA/QC review of Phase I ESAs and related environmental due diligence reports
- QA/QC laboratory analytical data
- Write professional reports and assist in technical proposal preparation
- Coordinate agency communication and client report revisions
- Maintain department templates, records, and resource databases
- A diverse background in environmental site assessment, remediation, risk assessment, and field sampling (soils, groundwater, and surface water)
- Asbestos, radon and/or lead-based sampling experience and credentials preferred, but not required
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety protocols, and Health & Safety Plans
- Stay up to date on environmental regulations and industry practices
- Perform other consulting duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with Phase I & Phase II environmental assessments
- Minimum 4 years of relevant environmental project experience
- Experience managing projects from conception to closeout
- Proficient in site assessments, remediation, and risk evaluation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent technical writing and grammatical accuracy
- Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines, and work independently
- Problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe; Microsoft 365 and SharePoint preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May oversee field staff and subcontractors on a project-by-project basis
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Geology, Engineering, or related field
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- 25% office work, 75% field work in varying outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures
- Exposure to environmental elements such as fumes, dust, chemicals, noise, and weather
- Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks including walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing, sitting, standing, pulling, bending, driving, and digging
- May require work in confined spaces or at heights following proper safety protocols
- Requires mental, physical, and manual dexterity, hand/grip strength, and depth perception to perform job tasks safely and in compliance with all applicable regulations
- Extended periods of sitting, typing, and looking at computer screens expected during office hours
- Work Attire and PPE – In the office, business casual attire is required. In the field, the employee must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, face shields, goggles, ear plugs, steel toe boots, hard hat, full-body harness with fall protection, SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus), H2S detectors, slicker or TYVEK chemical suit and gloves, and FRC (Fire Retardant Clothing) as required by the jobsite or task
Travel Requirements:
- Regular travel to job sites; overnight stays may be required based on project needs
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR
- Must be familiar with OSHA and Workers’ Compensation standards, injury reporting, and field safety protocols
- Upon hire, employee will be required to complete a drug and alcohol screening, a baseline physical (including bloodwork), and a motor vehicle record (MVR) check to confirm eligibility to drive on company business
