Years of Relevant Experience: 7 Years

Salary: $95,000-$110,000

Summary Description

The Compliance and Integrity Manager will be critical in safeguarding and advancing EarthRights’ mission by ensuring ethical, legal, just, and impactful operations. This position involves evaluating and strengthening organizational systems, operational procedures, and compliance with federal and state non-profit and employment requirements. The ideal candidate will proactively identify opportunities to enhance compliance and mitigate risk, conduct regular audits to ensure alignment with legal and internal standards, and design risk management frameworks and control strategies to support the organization’s long-term goals.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Daily duties involve comprehensive risk assessments and a thorough analysis of legal implications and associated operational risks.

 

The Compliance and Integrity Manager will be responsible for:

 

Labor Relations

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate labor relations programs, policies, and procedures, working with external counsel when necessary
  • Work with the EarthRights Management Team in overseeing the implementation of the collective bargaining agreement and play a key role in the negotiation of future agreements, guided by the organization’s principles and values
  • Plan and coordinate effective employee grievance procedures
  • Manage the investigation and resolution of labor disputes, should they arise
  • Monitor labor relations regulations and legislation
  • Evaluate and implement programs to improve employee relations in collaboration with the Director of People & Culture

Operational Risk and Compliance

  • Work with appropriate outside employment counsel for advice on complex risk and compliance matters, including 501(c)(3) and other laws and regulations governing nonprofit organizations
  • Develop and maintain internal compliance and risk management policies and oversee their implementation
  • Keep executive leadership apprised of compliance issues and organizational risks
  • Manage and maintain an operational risk management framework
  • Stay ahead of changes to government regulations and legal requirements, including regarding work in states where EarthRights has employees
  • Ensure EarthRights complies with state remote work requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors as appropriate
  • Prepare and file compliance reports with appropriate jurisdiction and labor agencies
  • Conduct annual staff compliance training and support staff in matters related to operational risk and compliance

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in law, business administration, human resources or a related field
  • Knowledge of U.S. labor and non-profit laws and workplace best practices
  • CEEP or CRCMP certifications are not required but are preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization, on risk management and compliance issues, including at least two years of experience with labor relations issues
  • Advanced knowledge of specific laws and regulations governing nonprofit organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter committed to work that makes an impact
