East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is inviting skilled electricians with industrial electrical experience to apply for the position of Electrical Technician. Duties include maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical and electronic circuits, motors, controls, and equipment used in large water distribution systems and wastewater treatment facilities. Electrical Technicians typically spend a large portion of time working in the field on 480V-12kV equipment. There are positions available in the Water and Wastewater departments, which report to Oakland or Walnut Creek.

Competitive candidates will share these values and also have industrial electrical experience in maintaining/repairing and/or installing switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, soft starters, UPSs, PLCs, electric motors, transformers, control panels, conduits, power distribution and lighting systems similar to those found at EBMUD facilities.
The salary range is $10,409 per month increasing to $10,929, $11,475, and $12,049 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively. EBMUD also provides valuable retirement programs including a significant pension benefit reciprocal with CalPERS, as well as 401k/401a/457b plans.

2a. Recognized status as a journey level Electrician in general electrical installation and repair work OR
2b.16 months of experience comparable to EBMUD’s Electrical Worker III classification, including satisfactory completion of the appropriate courses and advanced on-the-job training as specified in EBMUD's Trades Training Program.
3. Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
4. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including sufficient agility to climb to a height of 65 feet, sufficient strength to lift and maneuver equipment and materials such as conduit or pipe up to a weight of 90 pounds with assistance, and sufficient color vision to differentiate cable color coding. Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and to work overtime in emergency situations.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
3. All qualified applications will be competitively evaluated and those candidates who receive a passing score to be invited to an in-person written test tentatively scheduled for mid-May. The written test will cover electrical principles such as circuits, transformers, generators and motors, electrical practices such as wiring, maintenance, construction, PLCs, codes, tools, equipment, and safety.
4. Candidates who achieve a passing score on the written test will be invited to an interview panel that will cover blueprint reading, troubleshooting, maintenance and construction. Candidates who pass the interview panel will be invited to a hands-on shop test that covers equipment identification, installation, and troubleshooting. The interview panel and hands-on shop test are tentatively scheduled for early June.
5. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
6. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.
