THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Park District is currently recruiting for an Intern in our Finance & Management Services Division headquartered at Oakland, CA. The intern will be working on various finance department analyses including analysis on revenue date, purchasing data, utility costs, and vendors.
Applicants can anticipate working up to 37.5 hours per week for the duration of the Internship Summer Program which runs 6/14/25 through 8/22/25. The ideal hours for this internship will be 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Exact start and end dates for each internship will be based on completion of background checks and availability.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
The intern will complete three analysis projects. One project will include analyzing how much revenue we receive from parks versus the amount spent to bring in the revenue. A second project will involve analyzing what is being purchased, from different park locations and using what methods. A third project will analyze utility costs and develop recommendations for managing them moving forward. The Intern will also analyze different vendors to determine which should be prioritized for ACH payment based on volume and vendor payment terms. At the end of the summer, the Intern will produce a final report for the AGM of Finance & Management Services that includes an analysis of what fees should be charged at different locations, how to structure a District-wide procurement function, and how to reduce or better manage EBRPD utility costs.

- Has an analytical mindset and the ability to interpret financial data
- Enjoys connecting data to actionable items
- Understands or seeks to develop understanding in procurement processes and utility costs management
- Under the direction of the department head of a department, the intern is assigned to work on various projects up to forty (40) hours per week, for a short-term period of approximately ten to twelve (10-12) weeks.
- Interns in the assigned departments would handle projects designed to be a working and learning experience in any of several fields in that department.
- Work on various projects as assigned by the department head;
- Become familiar with District policies and practices together with the reasoning behind these procedures;
- Gain insight into being an effective decision-maker within the context of projected career goals;
- Develop the ability to initiate or reject situations that are presented for intern’s evaluation;
- Prepares reports;
- Compiles and analyzes data pertaining to assigned projects.
Education: Must be in attendance at, or on legitimate leave from, a high school, trade school, college or university. Academic background compatible to departmental assigned projects.
License: Must possess a valid California driver’s license. This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the General Manager for disabled or other applicants where the projects are such that a valid California Driver’s License would not be necessary.
