What are the responsibilities and job description for the Burt Distinguished Professorship position at East Carolina University?
The Travis and Cassandra Burt Distinguished Professorship will provide support to a faculty member in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences that will serve the Brody School of Medicine. This Professorship is expected to enhance the academic and research programs within the Brody School of Medicine department of Cardiovascular Sciences. The faculty member will conduct research and provide educational support for medical students and residents while continuing their own research, participating in departmental service, and mentoring scholarly activities while serving as a role model for faculty and students at East Carolina University.
Maintain national accolades as a recognized eminent scholar and teacher for medical students and residents. Maintain excellence in patient care for East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, and ECU Health.
The term of the distinguished professor appointment will be no greater than a five-year appointment, renewable prior to expiration, in consultation with the Director of ECU Heart Institute and the Executive Dean of Brody School of Medicine and approved by the Chancellor (or designee).
This appointment will be available July 2025.

Current BSOM faculty member with rank of Associate Professor/Clinical Associate Professor or Professor/Clinical Professor within the department of Cardiovascular Sciences
MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution
NC Medical License

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Ideal candidates will have a distinguished record in the form of publications and other scholarly activity and active ongoing research activities.
