The purpose of this position in the Center for Telepsychiatry and e-Behavioral Health (CTeBH) is to provide a full range of psychiatric services to patients and their families, including, but not limited to:
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluation including a comprehensive mental status examination.
- Order, conduct, and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose psychiatric disorders based on DSM-IV-R criteria.
- Plan treatment in collaboration with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Provide indicated treatments based on scientific and evidence-based principles, using, but not limited to, the following interventions: prescribing pharmacologic agents, prescribing non-pharmacologic cognitive, behavioral, and other psychotherapies, patient and family education, and referral to other health professional and resources.
- Documents all relevant data according to clinical and regulatory standards
Duties are performed under the guidelines established by the state board of medical examiners and in collaboration with a licensed physician.
Minimum Education/Experience
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
NC Registered Nurse and completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner working within an academic psychiatric setting
License or Certification required by the Department
NC Registered Nurse and completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners
