What are the responsibilities and job description for the Privette Distinguished Professorship position at East Carolina University?
The Dr. and Mrs. Douglas C. Privette Distinguished Professorship will provide support to a cardiac surgeon who will serve the Brody School of Medicine.
This Professorship is expected to enhance the academic and research programs within the Brody School of Medicine department of Cardiovascular Sciences. The faculty member will conduct research and provide educational support for medical students and residents in the fields of Cardiac Surgery while continuing their own research, participating in departmental service, and mentoring scholarly activities while serving as a role model for faculty and students at East Carolina University.
Maintain national accolades as a recognized eminent scholar and teacher for medical students and residents.
Maintain excellence in patient care for East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, and ECU Health.
The term of the distinguished professor appointment will be no greater than a five-year appointment, renewable prior to expiration, in review with the Department Chair and Executive Dean.

Minimum Education/Experience
- Current BSOM faculty member with rank of Associate Professor/Clinical Associate Professor or Professor/Clinical Professor within the department of Cardiovascular Sciences
- MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Board certification or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- NC Medical License
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
- MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Board certification or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- NC Medical License
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Ideal candidates will have a distinguished record in the form of publications and other scholarly activity and active ongoing research activities.
