ECKCE TRANSITION SPECIALIST
The Transition Specialist provides technical assistance, education, and advocacy for transition into post-secondary education or employment for students with disabilities and their families. This individual supports careful coordination of services and supports to ensure students with disabilities have the skills, experience, and support networks to transition to positive post-school outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaboration and Consultation: The transition specialist works closely with families, educators, and representatives from community organizations to identify available resources and services for students and their families. The Transition Specialist advocates for students' needs and connects them to recognized agencies or organizations.
Assessment and Planning: The Transition Specialist assesses students' individualized needs, goals, and challenges to support the development of a Transition Plan designed to serve as a foundational piece to developing their Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). As part of this process, the Transition Specialist coordinates with families and stakeholder groups to ensure the plan's successful development.
Intervention and Support: Collaborates with school teams to identify needed resources, such as instructional materials and professional development.
Data Collection and Analysis: The Transition Specialist assists in administering Transition Assessments and interpreting results. The results of these assessments play a critical role in developing effective Transition Plans for students with disabilities.
Professional Development: Provides professional development to increase awareness of effective transition planning and areas of compliance as related to the Kansas Special Education State Performance Plan.
Leadership: Serve as an ECKCE Specialist team member and collaborates with ECKCE Administration to align Interlocal and District initiatives. Serves as a liaison between the Interlocal and cooperating Districts. Upholds and enforces Board policy, administrative procedures, and school climate and culture.
