Reports to : Child Care Resource & Referral Regional Director

Classification (FLSA) : Full-time; Non-Exempt

General Function :

The Infant Toddler Consultant provides training, technical assistance, and support to Infant and Toddler classrooms within child care programs, works in collaboration with licensing consultants and other community agency staff working with child care providers to improve the quality and availability of child care. Responsible for the program database, and training functions as it relates to strengthening the child care system in the South Central Regional Service Delivery Area.

Essential Functions :

  • Promote CCR&R vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Help child care programs and providers determine needs, develop objectives, identify funding, provide resources, implement strategies, and monitor progress made toward improving the quality of care.
  • Recruit child care providers for desert areas with minimal available care or where no child care facility is present.
  • Support providers caring for children with exceptional needs.
  • Keep child care providers abreast of industry information regarding best practices, policies and procedures, training opportunities, and licensing regulation changes.
  • Provide Practice Based Coaching and Technical Assistance utilizing the tools established for the project.
  • Promote accreditation and assist as needed.
  • Design and deliver professional development opportunities to adult learners.
  • Assist providers with questions regarding licensing requirements, the CDA, and other educational opportunities.
  • Identify local child care training needs and work with staff and trainers to develop, provide, or facilitate needed training.
  • Stay informed, current, and knowledgeable about program resources and initiatives including QRIS (Quality Rating and Improvement System), Scholars for Excellence, CECPD (Center for Early Childhood Professional Development), Warmline, and other child care consultation services.
  • Assist, as needed, with public awareness events and community outreach activities promoting CCR&R services, Early Childhood Education issues, and child care consumer education.
  • Communicate with local, state, and federal legislators to inform them about issues affecting families in the community and quality child care.
  • Develop a strong relationship with community partners.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports and database entries pertaining to the program.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet position objectives and to support the agency, program, and statewide network.
  • Recruit new providers or encourage licensed providers to expand the number of licensed slots for infants and toddlers

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work on multiple projects with concurrent deadlines and prioritize tasks based on deadlines and importance.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in response to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills within diverse groups and ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Display dependability by reporting to the assigned duty station at the scheduled time, completing work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner, and by meeting deadlines.
  • Display confidentiality by treating all information pertaining to child care providers and children in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to give presentations in front of groups, large and small, using PowerPoint or other types of software.
  • Computer skills, including word processing, design programs, and ability to learn specialized software.
  • Display growth and change agent qualities to develop, promote, and support changes that may occur contractually and in the field.
  • Qualifications : REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge and experience in early care and education and / or child development.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and proof of current insurance, as travel is required for the position.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule, as occasional meetings and special events will be in the evening or on weekends.
  • PREFERRED :

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Adult education / training experience.
  • Physical and Travel Requirements :

  • Must be willing to travel extensively within the service delivery area. Occasional travel within the state, or to out-of-state conferences.
  • May spend as many as five days per week traveling, spending up to five hours in a vehicle per day.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, valid automobile insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle for work related travel.
  • Ability to perform extensive computer data entry.
  • Occasional travel is required during evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional lifting - up to 25 lbs., bending, and kneeling throughout the day.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
