Job Title: Nursing Faculty (Non-tenure track; Tenure track if eligible)
Reports To: Director, School of Nursing
FSLA: Exempt
SUMMARY
ECU Nursing faculty are highly motivated, self-directed nurse educators who teach in a pre-licensure
and/or RN to BSN four-year nursing program. The position requires classroom and clinical instruction,
student advisement, curriculum development, program evaluation and professional scholarship
activities and committee membership. Some travel required. The position is a ten-month faculty
position; and faculty teach 24 credit hours each year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements are:
1. Current or eligibility for an unrestricted Oklahoma nursing license; for those teaching clinical or
precepting in the Texas facilities, current or eligibility for both an unrestricted Oklahoma and Texas
license or a Multi-state license
2. Will consider a candidate holding a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing who is actively pursuing and
making consistent progress towards a Master’s degree from an accredited school. Preference will be
given to those candidates already holding a Master of Science degree in (or with a major in) nursing
from an accredited school
3. Two years’ experience in a clinical setting (required by OBN)
4. Appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise required to successfully teach in assigned
courses
5. Clear criminal background
6. Any other requirements for faculty promulgated by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, including all
physical requirements as outlined in the “Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses” (OBN Rules and
Regulations); and
7. All requirements for faculty from clinical agencies used by the program
Desired qualifications are:
1. Doctoral degree in (or with a major in) nursing from an accredited school
2. Certifications in areas of expertise and/or teaching

10. Develop clear and measurable learning objectives
11. Use technology to engage students in learning using a student-centered approach
12. Use evidence and teaching/learning theory to guide teaching and curriculum development,
searching for the best evidence to back up teaching strategies.
13. Prepare and deliver classroom, clinical, laboratory and simulation experiences that are
organized, innovative and creative, demonstrating expertise in facilitation
14. Teach critical thinking and problem solving, using reflection, probing, active listening and other
evidence-based teaching strategies
15. Assist students to master application of the nursing process to include assessing, planning,
implementing and evaluating nursing care and effective documentation of care
16. Support student learning by identifying individual learning needs and teaching students to
employ active learning strategies
17. Provide and maintain a safe learning environment that facilitates student learning and the
achievement of desired outcomes
18. Provide student feedback that is timely, frequent, specific, informational and framed positively
19. Assess student achievement of learning objectives via quality test construction, evaluation of
test items, evaluation of papers and other assignments; and development of rubrics; Hold students
accountable for their learning
20. Advise nursing students in the process of nursing program eligibility and completion of
graduation requirements
21. Actively participate in and support School and university-wide participatory governance
components and activities and other collaborative processes
22. Recommend evidence-based curricular changes or revisions to the Curriculum Committee
23. Participate in ongoing systematic course and program evaluation
24. Respond to email and telephone communications within 24 hours during regular business work
week
25. Engage in scholarship, research, & other professional development activities (i.e. writing
manuscripts for publication, poster and podium presentations at national conferences and grant writing)
and community service activities
26. Maintain expertise and certifications in area of responsibility; Demonstrate experience and
familiarity with nursing clinical duties and skills of clinical site
27. Obtain competencies in programs used by the School of Nursing (i.e. testing, simulation)
28. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and a balance between work and personal life
