East Coast Cannabis is looking for a knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy Lab Supervisor to join our team in Eliot, Maine.
The Lab Manager’s role leads the Company’s Lab operations and production of concentrates to support customer demand and product strategy. This role requires extensive cross functional collaboration, and the ability to lead others through influence rather than authority. This role is responsible for operating within the Maine Adult Use program guidelines per East Coast Cannabis’ best practices
General Responsibilities:
Planning, directing, organizing, and controlling the overall lab production of product including: all operations, regulatory compliance, data management, implementation of new technology, methods, and related work as required.
Overseeing lab staff relative to staffing, training, associate development, performance counseling, and team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of lab staff, ensuring a positive, productive, and safe work environment. Work closely with the Finished Products Managers and Procurement Director to understand production needs and to meet deadlines and KPI’s.
- Manage Production Operations: Oversee daily lab manufacturing operations, including extraction, refinement, formulation, and quality control of respective cannabis products.
- Quality Control: Implement and maintain strict quality control standards to ensure all products meet company and regulatory requirements and testing standards.
- Compliance: Adhere to all Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) rules and regulations. Understand and maintain compliance with local and state regulations, the company handbook, Metrc application, and other directives, as necessary.
- Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Inventory Management: Collaborate with Procurement Director to ensure inventory levels of raw materials, lab supplies, reagents, solvents, and any other items necessary for manufacturing to continue. Ensure accurate record-keeping in Metrc and necessary communication with other departments.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure the lab and equipment are maintained in good working condition. Communicate and log regular maintenance and repair tickets as needed.
- Foster an environment of cleanliness and safe working conditions. The lab should have regular cleaning to ensure all sensors work properly, with an emphasis on the extraction booth to mitigate product dust buildup. Lead by example.

Must obtain and maintain the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy Individual Identification Card (IIC).
Must wear lanyard with IIC card at all times on worksites.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and develop all Lab staff
Work Environment:
Must wear required PPE when on-site.
Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to various temperatures, gases, loud noises, and odors associated with cannabis production.
Understanding of workplace safety and hazard prevention practice.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand or sit for long shifts.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
Must be able to work comfortably in tight spaces with respect to co-workers comfort zones at times.
Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.
Travel Requirements:
Travel between corporate headquarters, cultivation centers (packaging) and kitchens. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Required Education/Experience:
High school diploma/GED
Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, business administration, chemistry, or related field. In-depth knowledge of cannabis manufacturing processes including extraction and refinement techniques as well as proper use of equipment.
Experience/knowledge of marijuana hydrocarbon processing and distillation, maintenance on hydrocarbon closed loop system and solvent recovery systems.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing management role.
Strong leadership and team management skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in using manufacturing software and systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Metrc are highly desirable. An emphasis on safety is required.
Thorough understanding of OCP, state, and local cannabis regulations and compliance requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members and senior management.
High level of attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products in a safe, compliant workspace
