Part-time Digital Learning Teacher Librarian
Purpose Statement
The Digital Learning Teacher Librarian collaborates with staff to develop, deliver, and evaluate an information and technology literacy curriculum at assigned buildings. The primary focus of the librarian will be to design, implement, and evaluate a school library program and support the implementation of technology related to the district’s digital learning program.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, required.
- Master’s degree in library and information sciences or related field, preferred.
- Successful experience in teaching information and technology literacy, preferred.
- Current Iowa license with one or more of the following endorsements: elementary school teacher librarian, secondary school teacher librarian, or school teacher librarian (K-12).
- Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.
- Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions
Instructional Support and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with teachers to develop, deliver, and evaluate an information and technology literacy curriculum at assigned buildings.
- At the K-5 level, instruction will be integrated with the district’s digital learning classes and, when appropriate and possible, with classroom activities.
- At the 6-12 level, instruction will be embedded into classroom activities by partnering with teachers and other building staff.
- Assist with district curriculum development by participating in team planning and teaching, serving as a classroom resource person, and providing instructional materials support.
- Provide professional development support to teachers on emerging technologies, technology integration, and online resources.
- Support instruction for diverse learning abilities, styles, and needs and model and promote effective and creative teaching strategies.
- Help students become independent users of information.
Technology and Digital Learning:
- Promote and support the appropriate use of technology by students and teachers, including digital citizenship skills.
- Ensure that technology related to the district’s digital learning program (makerspace equipment, Chromebooks, tablets, etc.) is repaired, maintained, and updated as needed.
Library Services and Literacy Promotion:
- Promote and assist staff and students in the use of a variety of print, non-print, and digital resources.
- Provide instructional support for and assistance with all facets of the research process.
- Provide reading guidance and encourage reading for both enjoyment and information.
- Communicate with parents and teachers on services of the library.
Library Program Administration:
- Design, implement, and evaluate a school library program at assigned buildings.
- The program will support building and district goals and fulfill requirements for school library programs as defined by the State of Iowa.
- Coordinate with building administrators on:
- The daily operation of the school library.
- Management of media center budgets.
- Distribution of textbooks.
- Training and supervision of library staff, student aides, and volunteers.
- Encourage the use of the school library and its resources by establishing a friendly, productive atmosphere and ensuring flexible, convenient access.
- Inform administrators, staff, students, families, and other stakeholders about school library program goals, digital learning opportunities, and school library activities.
- Communicate with principals and/or Academic Services regarding successes and concerns surrounding the school library program.
- Organize and maintain records of acquisitions, holdings, circulation, etc., for hardware and materials inventory, maintenance, and access purposes.
- Select and manage materials (print, non-print, and digital), textbooks, curriculum materials, and equipment according to board policy, state and federal legislation, and supporting regulations.
Professional Growth and District Participation:
- Participate in district-level meetings, professional development, committee work, and curriculum writing.
- Remain current in the profession through professional growth.
Other Functions
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
- Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
- Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
