Job Summary
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of Students provides leadership and administrative supervision in the areas of Student Life, Housing, Student Conduct/Title IX, and Counselling and Accessibility Services. The Dean serves as an advocate for student well-being through direct oversight of specific functional areas and through strategic and collaborative partnerships. This is a position of trust.
Responsibilities
This position reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. The Dean of Students shall:
- Supervise staff administering complex, student-oriented services, including Student Life, Housing, Student Conduct/Title IX, and Counselling and Accessibility Services
- Work with the Director of Student Conduct and Title IX to provide guidance, expertise, and management on matters related to the student code of conduct, student rights and responsibilities, the process of adjudication, and alternative dispute resolution.
- Ensure services offered are effective, cohesive, and consistent with the needs and objectives of the diverse student population.
- Provide oversight of the Student Government Association and EGSC Ambassadors program.
- Develop collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and students to resolve issues, and support students and the community when incidents and urgent matters arise.
- Provide training and information to students, faculty, staff, parents, and external stakeholders regarding student well-being, resources, rights, responsibilities, and overall experience.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders on priorities and programs identified through the College strategic planning processes.
- Ensure compliance with all USG, EGSC, state, and federal policies.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships and open communication with the faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
- Serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator in the absence of or as a backup to the Title IX Coordinator.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Maintain security of confidential information, files, and documents
- Comply with all college policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Masters required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in higher education.
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Skill and sensitivity in interacting with individuals from other cultures.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with student affairs literature and best practices.
- Familiarity with computer applications and ease and comfort with technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate strongly preferred.
- 10 years of experience in higher education.
- Title IX experience or training.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of trends and best practices in student affairs.
- Knowledge of Title IX
- Knowledge of the College's and USG's student affairs policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of Board of Regents and University System of Georgia policies.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
