Job Summary


The Director of Financial Aid works under the general direction of the Provost/Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and supervises and manages departmental functions and responsibilities. This is a position of trust.

Responsibilities

  • Remains informed of current federal, state and institutional regulations; ensures Financial Aid staff are trained accordingly; enforces policies and procedures;
  • Assists staff with difficult or complicated situations;
  • Directs personnel in the preparation of required reports; review reports for accuracy and completeness; updates federal participation agreements as needed;
  • Develops and maintains the department budget; approves purchases;
  • Approves payroll reports;
  • Prepares the FISAP Report, IPEDS Report, New Year Set-up, and College Board Survey;
  • Represents the department to internal and external constituents;
  • Determines student eligibility for financial aid; awards funds as appropriate; forwards records to Department of Education for payment; balances program funds;
  • Counsels with students/parents concerning financial aid procedures, regulations, and special circumstances;
  • Lead and/or serve on various internal committees;
  • Establish and coordinate all operational processes for the Office of Financial Aid, including supervision of all departmental employees;
  • Plan and conduct financial aid workshops for prospective and continuing students, as well as faculty and staff;
  • Oversee processes involving the Federal Work-Study Program;
  • Engage in outreach to the community for work-study opportunities, as well as for prospective students;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require four years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies and procedures related to student financial aid.
  • Knowledge of program eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Demonstrated skills in the supervision of personnel.
  • Demonstrated skills in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
