TITLE: UCC Building Inspector


Classification: Full-time


FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT


Hours: Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm


POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Code Enforcement Officer will perform a variety of routine and technical duties in support of Township ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, building, health and safety and other matters of public concern. This position will be responsible for issuing permits, performing inspections, handle complaints and be a resource to property owners, residents, businesses, and the public for information about the UCC (Uniform Construction Code) and Township codes and ordinances. The Code Enforcement Officer will also perform other assigned duties.


Supervision: This position is under the Director of Code Enforcement.


SUPERVISES: None


PRINICPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND/OR TASKS:

 

- The principal tasks are performed as allowed by the Inspector’s certifications and applicable state law.

- Reviews UCC and Zoning required permit applications and plans for code compliance.

- Issues required permits and certificates of occupancy.

- Investigates and resolves complaints and violations regarding UCC and Township codes and ordinances.

- Performs systematic inspections as required by UCC and Township codes and ordinances.

-  Documents all official actions and determinations.

-  Maintains accurate documentation and files on all inspections, permits and complaints.

-  Help property owners, residents, businesses, and the public in understanding the code enforcement process.

-  Must obtain continuing education credits as required to maintain certifications

-  Any other duties assigned

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

The employee must be able to walk, hear, see, speak, move 25 pounds from one location to another, use a phone, computer and climb up and down stairs and work alone. In addition, the employee may be exposed to dirt, dust, mud, noise, and inclement weather conditions and potentially hostile environments. The employee must be able to drive a car.

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, EDUATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

- High School Diploma or equivalent

- UCC Certifications to include Residential, Commercial and Accessibility.

-  Have a minimum of 3-year experience in Code Enforcement and Zoning.

-  Fire Inspector ICC or Pro Board certification. (Preferred)

-  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.


REQUIRED SKILLS:

 

- Considerable knowledge of UCC and Zoning process.

- Have or have the ability to obtain UCC certifications within one year.

- The ability to analyze and interpret construction plans and documentation.

- The ability to deal with the public, contractors, and others in a professional manner.

- The ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.

- The ability to read and interpret legal documents and descriptions.

- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

- Knowledge of record keeping, report preparation, file methods.

- The ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments with little direction.

- The ability to use a computer and have basic skill level with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

- When obtained, the employee must maintain currency with all PA State UCC (Uniform Construction Code) certifications and attend continuing education courses as needed and required.


REQUIRED LICENSES:

- Valid PA Driver’s License

 

DEADLINE:

- All applications MUST be received by Friday, October 25th at 5:00 PM.

 

SALRY RANGE:

- $60,000-$75,000 (actual salary is dependent upon education and experience)
