POSITION: Long-Term Substitute High School Science Teacher
LOCATION OF ASSIGNMENT: East Hampton High School
ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: May 2025
SALARY/PAYRATE: based on hourly rate
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Design and deliver instruction in high school science and all responsibilities associated with a teaching position in East Hampton Public Schools, including but not limited to:
· Works collaboratively with content-area department for instructional purposes in the area of science;
· Ability to effectively deliver instruction and content;
· Maintains a strong working knowledge and application of the philosophy, techniques and objectives applicable to this assignment and specialization;
· Directs and assesses the learning experiences of students;
· Develops a positive classroom climate and environment conducive to quality instruction;
· Ensures parents receive accurate and timely information regarding student progress and performance;
· Participates in professional growth activities, including collaborative planning, and supports the overall school climate by participating in school and district-based committees;
· Participates in assignments and activities to promote better school-community relations (parent conferences, activities, etc.);
· Utilizes student performance data to inform instructional choices;
· Performs other specific duties as assigned by the building administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ability to work closely within the department to collaborate on instruction and planning
· Deliver excellent and effective communication with students, staff, and parents in a variety of formats;
· Work cooperatively and collegially with administrators, teachers and support staff;
· Apply organizational ability and demonstrate willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion and according to deadlines;
· Integrate technology into instructional practices skillfully;
· Maintain high expectations for students and develop a strong, positive rapport.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
· Certification by the State of Connecticut for High School Science - General Science (034) - preferred
· Demonstrated competency in the area of certification, the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching and commitment to education excellence
· Strong knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards and the instructional method to support their implementation
· Experience designing curriculum related to the Next Generation Science Standards
· Demonstrated interest and aptitude for working with high school students of all skill levels and abilities in Science
· Demonstrated ability to differentiate lessons
