Town of East Hampton-Building Maintenance Supervisor-Buildings and Grounds: $75,452.21 annually for a 40-hour work week.
An employee in this class has responsibility for directing and supervising the operation, maintenance and minor repair activities in a municipal building or group of buildings. The incumbent works with considerable independence in scheduling maintenance and minor repair activities within a building and in determining proper work methods and procedures. Supervision is exercised over a limited number of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance mechanics.
The employee in this title must have knowledge of the maintenance procedures essential to the upkeep of public buildings; good knowledge of the basic principles of plumbing, electricity, heating and air conditioning; good knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of skilled and unskilled workers in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to keep accurate records, ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and plans; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Responsibilities:
- Schedules work to best provide for maintenance needs while least interfering with business operations
- Supervises the repair of building machinery and equipment
- Assigns, directs, and supervises work on projects dealing with the maintenance, repairs, upgrades and additions to buildings and structures owned and operated by the Town
- Acts as project manager for all subordinates and sub-contractor workers on a project
- Acts as a liaison between Department Head, Town Board and Engineers and Contractors
- Assists department head and/or administration with estimates of materials, schedules and employees needed on projects
- Reads blueprints and technical plans, utilizes knowledge of maintenance, construction, safety guidelines and supervisory skills to keep projects on schedule and on budget
- Handles organization and record keeping for projects
This is a full-time position, 40- hours per week, and the annual rate of pay is $75,452.21 with benefits, including paid vacation, enrollment in the New York State and Local Retirement system and health care and dental and vision coverage.
Minimum qualifications- Two (2) years of college study with a major concentration in engineering or a related field at a federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State, and two (2) years of experience in the performance of a variety of building maintenance activities, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; or, graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience in the performance of a variety of building maintenance activities, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; or, eight (8) years of experience in the performance of a variety of building maintenance activities, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
