- A minimum of two years of instructional coaching experience working with classroom teachers on effective instructional strategies that support English Learners in meeting grade-level standards;
- A minimum of five years of exemplary ESL or Bilingual teaching experience at multiple grade-levels and English proficiency levels.
- Strong background in providing supports and differentiated instruction for English Learners to meet grade-level standards while increasing English language proficiency for students across grade levels;
- Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and effective instructional strategies for English Learners;
- Strong understanding of the developmental stages of English Learners’ growth and development;
- Strong knowledge of Connecticut English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards;
- Strong background in K-5 or 6-12 curricular content and standards;
- Strong background in research-based instructional practices;
- Strong understanding of the unique challenges and experiences of English Learners and the ability to advocate for them;
- Strong understanding of culturally-responsive teaching and the ability to create inclusive classrooms for all learners;
- Ability to interpret LAS Links data to inform instruction and monitor student growth;
- Experience in collecting, analyzing and correlating school-wide, grade level, classroom and individual student data;
- Excellent collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills – including written and verbal;
- Ability to model best practices in instruction for English Learners, provide feedback, and guide teachers in improving their practices;
- Ability to prepare and present professional development workshops;
- Ability to support, complete, and collaborate around district curriculum, assessment, and instruction work;
- Ability to lead, inspire, support and motivate; must be positive, trustworthy and committed to promoting district and department vision, mission and goals;
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and collaboratively - ability to bring new ideas to the team;

- Assists teachers with intentional planning that is aligned to prioritized district curriculum and materials and supports differentiation for students’ language and academic needs;
- Follows the district student-centered coaching model by providing instructional supports for students to access grade-level content;
- Leads collaborative conversations around student data, teaching and learning;
- Based on formative, benchmark, and observational data, provides instructional resources for teachers that enhance and support effective teaching for English Learners;
- Works as a member of the school community to educate parents in regards to successful instructional practices, resources and strategies for English Learners.
- Serves as a member of East Hartford’s World Language, EL & Bilingual Programs Department;
- Collaborates with district instructional coaches to build classroom teacher support plans that are data-driven and inform instruction and action steps;
- Serves as a liaison between the Supervisor of World Language, EL and Bilingual Programs and school administrators and classroom teachers;
- Assists the Supervisor of World Language, EL and Bilingual Programs with LAS Links testing, grant applications, and annual evaluation reports;
- Is highly encouraged to serve on a district-level sub-committee and/or elementary curriculum team.
- Supports and delivers a variety of professional learning sessions about meaningful, impactful instructional practices, data analysis, and intentional planning across the district.
- Regularly communicates strategies, research, and resources for student growth and achievement
- Assumes such other functions as may be delegated or assigned by the Supervisor of World Language, EL & Bilingual Programs or Building Principals.

JOB GOAL:
The primary goal of this position is to provide leadership and expert guidance in supporting teachers to meet the instructional needs of English learners across multiple grade levels. The EL instructional coach will collaborate with classroom teachers, grade-level teams, and instructional data teams to implement effective, research-based instructional strategies that foster academic achievement and language development ensuring that English learners meet grade-level standards and increase their English proficiency.
By modeling best practices, offering professional development, and advocating for the needs of English learners, the coach will help cultivate a school culture that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of English Learners.
