Stipend for this position: $2,064
Stipend amounts are based on a percentage of the base salary negotiated by DMEA. Stipends are subject to be prorated if the full season is not worked.
TITLE: ACTV GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) Sponsor (Stipend)
DEPARTMENT: Activities Department
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Activities Department, Iowa Safe Schools
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
BASIC FUNCTION:
GSA sponsors provide support, guidance and a sense of empowerment to all students, with a focus on LGBTQ students. GSA sponsors will help support each club to ensure members can: meet and connect with other trans and queer students, create safe spaces to discuss various issues LGBTQ students face, and take a leadership role to improve school climate. GSA sponsors will work closely with community advocates and receive guidance from Iowa Safe Schools GSA Advocate and various other community resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide primary oversight and leadership for the program.
2. Submit annual activity plan to activities office as requested by district activities personnel. 3. Coordinate and facilitate workshops scheduled for students concerning a variety of high school and middle school issues.
4. Plan field trips such as college visits and meetings with community partners.
5. Organize and plan cultural and academic field trips.
6. Participate in mandatory sessions for students and staff meetings.
7. Check in with students on a weekly basis concerning their academic performance, assignments, general behavior and conduct, and problems in or out of school. 8
. Meet with students as a group on a weekly/monthly basis.
9. Attend meetings as directed by the district activity office, monthly or more frequently as appropriate.
10. Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibilityand responsiveness. 11. Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
12. Attend district-wide meetings as requested

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. A minimum of an Associate’s Degree.
2. Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
3. Skills in leadership, organization, problem solving, and human relations.
4. Strong interpersonal skills.
5. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
