What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Special Education position at East Islip School District?
RESPONSIBILITIES (to include):
- With Principals and Central Office Administration, developing, supervising, maintaining & evaluating appropriate special education programs to meet the needs of the students who have disabilities who are residents of the District.
- Monitoring & assuring the CSE/CPSE process for students with disabilities to make sure that the School District is in conformance with established regulations and laws.
- Serving as CSE/CPSE/504 Chair whenever necessary.
- Assisting in supervising, observing, and evaluating of pupil personnel providers, special education teachers/staff, CSE/CPSE/504 Chairs, related service providers, and office staff.
- In consultation, scheduling and directing the activities of related service providers in conjunction with the building administrators.
- Assuring that mandated services are provided to District & non-District students enrolled in non-public schools located within the District's boundaries.
- Interacting with families, community members, faculty and staff, administration and outside agencies.
- Managing out of district and private school students.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong Special Education background
- Experience as a member or chairperson of a Committee of Special Education
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Part 200 Regulations
- Strong understanding of the Danielson Rubric
- Outstanding communication, problem solving, human relations skills, and decision- making capabilities
- SDA/SDL and special education experience required
