Key Roles
This position is responsible for assisting the Manager, Materials in formulating department strategy and implementing methods to effectively manage EKPC¿s inventory investment, optimize inventory levels to balance company technical and financial goals, facilitate continuous improvement, leverage technology, ensure quality parts and service and recover maximum value for EKPC¿s surplus and obsolete inventories, materials and equipment in the support of EKPC¿s Generation and Transmission operational and safety strategy. Depending on the specialty, the position may be primarily responsible for materials management for EKPC¿s generation assets, transmission assets, or a combination of both.
Key Responsibilities
- Uses historical usage reports, lead-time data, work plans/material forecasts, and established analytical processes to determine appropriate safety stock levels and reorder points/quantities for all stock material to help ensure optimum inventory level.
- Recommends improvements in policies or procedures relating to safety, inventory control, and supply chain operations.
- Works closely with planners, engineers, plant managers, and supervisors/foremen to ensure all material requests are accurate and complete, including recommending material alternatives to help ensure material needs are met.
- Identifies opportunities for more effective, efficient materials purchases and management by identifying alternate sourcing, reverse engineering, product substitution, and other opportunities.
- Supports the Transmission and/or Generation Material Standards Committee and helps recommend standards for materials.
- Gives work direction and coaches direct reports related to performance and development goals, training needs, provides mentoring, and appraises their performance throughout the year.
- Ensures EKPC staff follows established Supply Chain procedures for requesting materials and managing inventory.
- Ensures short and long-range goals and objectives for the warehouse section are obtained, attained and align with the overall mission of the Supply Chain department.
- Ensures direct reports follow all OSHA and EKPC safety policies and procedures.
- Adheres to the annual warehouse budget.
- § Responsible for data review and analysis, inventory recommendations, item master data integrity as well as daily management of core materials management functions.
- § Assists in corporate-wide cycle count management, critical spares management, supplier managed inventories, supplier quality program, alternate sourcing recommendations, surplus and obsolescence management, investment recovery, inventory total cost management and lean inventory program implementation and administration.
- § Maintains a safe working environment, develops work schedules, assigns priorities to projects and effectively supervises direct reports with a customer service focus.
- § Provides work direction, guidance, and motivation to warehouse staff as needed and works as a team member with other Materials Supervisors in support of materials management strategy for all Generation and Transmission sites.
- § Works across business units to ensure optimum inventory levels are maintained and EKPC¿s inventory investment and assets are managed to deliver maximum reliability and value for the organization.
- § Develops, suggest, and implements continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency.
- § Identifies opportunities to utilize long-term material contracts, supplier stocking agreements, and other strategies with key suppliers.
- § Assists with emergent material needs and sourcing
- . Coordinates the implementation of recommendations made by the Material Standards Committee and, as directed, identifies and oversees the proper disposal of surplus, obsolete, and scrap materials and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- § Provides daily oversight for the Supply Chain materials function as well as work direction, guidance, and motivation to warehouse staff in support of multiple site generation and transmission material operations as assigned.
- § Maintains a safe working environment, develops work schedules, assigns priorities to projects and effectively supervises the overall warehouse operations with a customer service focus.
- § Reviews and makes adjustments to inventory levels based on available data to help ensure an optimum inventory level is being maintained.
- § Partners with other Materials Supervisors to implement inventory control and other materials management process improvements.
- Maintains accuracy and accountability for all inventories under responsibility including, but not limited to, physical inventories and cycle count inventories processes and results.
- Supervises the daily operation of multiple site warehouses including, but not limited to receipt, shipment and issue of materials, assignment of tasks, and priority assignment in completing projects.
- Assists the Manager, Materials in the development and enhancement of the computerized supply chain management software and future technology improvements.
- Verifies all material requests are filled in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensures warehouses and outside storage areas are maintained in an organized, secure, and safe manner at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education:
§ Bachelor¿s degree in related area required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
§ APICS, CPM, or CPSM certification preferred or commitment to obtain certification within a reasonable time.
Experience:
§ Seven (7) years of related experience. Experience working in a leadership capacity is preferred.

§ Must complete Supervisory Training Program within two (2) years and attend on-going Learning for Leaders training.
§ Must be knowledgeable of inventory management and control principles.
§ Must be knowledgeable of generally accepted accounting principles.
§ Knowledge of ERP inventory modules required.
§ Ability to understand and implement various analytical inventory control processes such as safety stock, reorder points, economic order quantity, inventory turnover, and ABC Analysis is required.
§ Must have ability to interpret and understand blueprints, schematics, and various other drawings.
§ Proficient computer skills especially in Excel, Outlook, and Word are required.
§ Planning, organizing, and leadership skills are required and must have the ability to assess and balance risk.
§ Strong oral, written, and listening communications skills are required.
§ Strong interpersonal skills and effective problem solving skills are required.
§ Must be able to effectively interface and communicate with both internal and external customers having various levels of technical skills.
§ Strong negotiating skills and knowledge of generally acceptable purchasing practices required.
§ Must demonstrate effective product knowledge to recommend material and provide efficient customer service.
§ Ability to train, motivate, and develop staff is required.
Generation and Transmission
- Must have a security awareness relevant to materials stored inside and outside the warehouse area and knowledge of proper materials handling and storage methods.
- Ability to effectively solve inventory discrepancies is required.
- Must be skilled and certified in operating various types of forklifts. If not certified, must be willing and able to obtain EKPC forklift certification(s).
- Must be knowledgeable of DOT regulations and guidelines for loading, hauling, and transporting materials.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and RUS accounting principles preferred.
Materials Management
- Must be knowledgeable of lean, continuous improvement and quality (e.g. Six Sigma) principles.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects is required.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work across cross-functional and multi-site teams to achieve desired results on time is required.
- Availability for periodic overnight out of town travel is required.
- Desire and passion for continuous improvement strategies and implementation.
