East Lawn is seeking a dedicated, hardworking individual to join our team as a Cemetery Grounds Person. This position offers an opportunity to help maintain the beauty and tranquility of our cemetery grounds, assist with funeral services, and create a peaceful space for families during their most difficult times.
As a Cemetery Grounds Person, you will play a key role in ensuring the grounds are maintained with the utmost care, all while working in an atmosphere rooted in respect and compassion. This is a physically demanding, union position that requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds and withstand extreme weather conditions. Candidates will undergo a pre-employment drug screen and physical to ensure they are fit for the role.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Service with a Smile: You'll be the face of East Lawn, interacting with families and staff, offering exceptional service and always bringing a positive, upbeat attitude. You'll know the ins and outs of our services and share that knowledge to help others.
- Grounds Maintenance: You'll operate heavy machinery like backhoes and tractors to dig graves, install vaults, and care for our grounds. You'll also cut sod, mow, trim, and edge, making sure everything looks neat and beautiful.
- Marker & Vault Setup: Help with setting and resetting gravestones, markers, and flower vases, ensuring everything is in place for families.
- Landscape & Irrigation: Take care of trees, shrubs, and our sprinkler systems, ensuring that everything stays green and lush. You’ll also repair pipes and help with irrigation maintenance when needed.
- Support Services: You’ll assist with things like lowering caskets into graves, placing flowers, and helping with special services. Your role will be important in helping families honor their loved ones.
- Special Projects: You'll get the chance to work on various projects, whether it's renovating sections of the cemetery or maintaining equipment.
- Work with Purpose: You’ll be part of a team that serves our community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism.
What We’re Looking For:
- Equipment Skills: You’ve got some experience with heavy machinery (backhoes, tractors, etc.) and smaller lawn care tools (weed eaters, blowers, mowers).
- Tech Savvy: If you know how to maintain irrigation systems or have mechanical know-how, that’s a huge plus!
- Physical Stamina: This job can be physically demanding. You’ll need to be able to lift heavy objects (like crypt fronts) and work outside in all weather conditions.
- People Person: You’ll be interacting with grieving families, so you need to have empathy and the ability to stay calm and respectful in emotional situations.
- Team Player: We’re all about working together to get the job done. You’ll need to communicate well with coworkers and support each other in a positive, team-oriented environment.
