Position Summary: The Associate Principal at East Liverpool Junior-Senior High School plays a critical role in maintaining a visible and engaged leadership presence throughout the school day. This position requires active involvement in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, extracurricular activities, and all student-centered spaces. The Associate Principal supports academic programming, student discipline, school operations, and family-community engagement while working alongside the principal to create a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving school environment.
Primary Responsibilities: The Associate Principal provides instructional leadership by maintaining daily visibility in classrooms and hallways to support teachers, provide feedback, and ensure instructional excellence. This position collaborates with teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness through professional development, mentoring, and classroom observations. Responsibilities include supporting data-driven decision-making by analyzing student performance metrics to improve academic outcomes, overseeing intervention programs, and ensuring appropriate accommodations for students with special needs in coordination with special education staff. The Associate Principal fosters a culture of continuous improvement and high expectations for both staff and students.
The Associate Principal plays a key role in student behavior, discipline, and school culture by maintaining a strong physical presence in common areas to proactively address student concerns and reinforce positive behaviors. This position develops, implements, and oversees student discipline policies that promote a safe, respectful, and structured school environment. The Associate Principal mediates conflicts between students, staff, and parents, ensuring fair and constructive resolutions. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies are promoted to reinforce student responsibility and engagement. Additionally, the Associate Principal leads efforts to improve student attendance, working closely with counselors and families to support at-risk students.
In operations and administrative leadership, the Associate Principal oversees daily school operations, including building safety, student supervision, and emergency preparedness. This position ensures visible leadership before, during, and after school to monitor arrival, dismissal, and school transitions. The Associate Principal assists with hiring, evaluating, and supporting faculty and staff to maintain high professional standards. Responsibilities also include supervising student transportation, cafeteria operations, and hallway safety procedures while ensuring compliance with district policies, state laws, and accreditation requirements.
Community and stakeholder engagement is a key aspect of the role. The Associate Principal actively engages with students, parents, and staff to build strong relationships and maintain open lines of communication. This position serves as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and community partners to foster a positive school culture. Regular participation in school events, athletic programs, and extracurricular activities is expected to strengthen school spirit. The Associate Principal collaborates with local businesses, organizations, and postsecondary institutions to enhance student opportunities.
Other duties include acting as the building administrator in the absence of the principal and performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district leadership.
Qualifications: A valid Ohio Administrative License or equivalent is required. Candidates must have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership or Administration and a minimum of three years of successful teaching or administrative experience. Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills are essential. Extensive knowledge of secondary education curriculum, instructional best practices, and school improvement strategies is necessary. Experience in student discipline, conflict mediation, and restorative practices is preferred.
