PREOPERATIVE/ RECOVERY ROOM STAFF NURSE JOB SUMMARY
This professional provides planned and highly skilled nursing care for the immediate pre- and postoperative patient. Through continuous patient surveillance allows for early recognition of medical or surgical complications that may arise in any patient, with special emphasis on the adult and geriatric patient.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Admit patient to pre-op area, assesses patient and prepares patient for surgery.
- Receives patient from surgery and evaluates needs of patient, administering care accordingly.
- Compares stability of vital signs with pre-op to establish parameters.
- Assesses and documents patient status.
- Carries out treatments and/or orders.
- Gives post-operative instructions.
REGISTERED NURSE – OPERATING ROOM/ CIRCULATOR JOB SUMMARY Responsible for coordinating intra-operative care of the patient and indirectly responsible through coordination and information sharing of both pre- and post-operative care.
. Planning, organizing, documenting and evaluating nursing care of the operative patient.
- Coordinating planned nursing care with other health care team members.
- Monitoring the sterile environment.
- Assisting anesthesia, scrub and medical personnel to assure a smooth operation.
- Assisting in preparation of the sterile environment.
- Assisting in proper preparation of supplies, medication,equipment and instrumentation involved in patient care.
- Assisting with pre and/or postoperative patient assessments and teaching. Knowledge in specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient.
- Participating in budgeting, marketing, utilization, cost containment and reduction activities.
- Assisting in organizing and developing policies and procedures.
- Developing effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Checking OR equipment to include all emergency equipment, prior to the first surgical case of the day.
Education: * Graduated from accredited school of nursing.
- Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state.
Training/Experience: * A minimum of 1-year perioperative nursing, preferred.
- A minimum of two years surgical experience preferred
- Prefer previous general medical/surgical nursing experience and additional “scrub” experience.
Must be CPR certified or obtain certification within 6 months of employment. ACLS preferred.Job Type: One day a week.
